Another storm on Shuswap Lake and another opportunity for a photo. This one delivered a crown over Copper Island and a train of sparkles in the gown she wore.

The night before we had thunderstorms in the area which provided the moisture for the spider webs that were prolific along the little lane that meanders through the Wildlife Refuge. I caught this one in the early morning light.

Just going through some old images and came across this beauty taken on a trip to Ecuador.
Please feel free to correct me if i have failed to ID this correctly, could be one of two I found.
On the side of the A40, not far from where I live, there is a spectacular verge covered in Cuckoo flower and some of the bluebells are also coming through. Being on the verge the bluebells can be quite isolated allowing for different type of shot with a more diffuse background. In 2 weeks or so the real carpets will be around on some of the more mountainous sites which should lead to some more landscape type shots - and if the gods are smiling some butterflies roosting amongst them.

The Sparkling Violetear has a large purplish blue belly patch that distinguishes it from the similar Lesser Violetear (Colibri cyanotus). This species also has a purplish “chinstrap” and is larger and brighter green at the throat than its relative. This individual was at the Jardin Encantado in the small town of San Francisco, not far west of Bogota.
This image of a Sparkling Violetear shows the violet feathers on the side of the head that form “ears” when they are flared. This photo also shows the bluish belly plumage that distinguishes this species from Lesser Violetear (which is smaller but otherwise similar). This hummingbird was seen at Cock-of-the-Rock Lodge on Manu Road, Peru. The range of Sparkling Violetear extends from Venezuela south into northern Argentina, mainly along the Andes mountain chain.
