This is a look at the shuttle Explorer's nose gear and belly from the front. The Explorer is a life sized mockup of the Orbiter, with some stuff that flew on the real thing, I believe. The Explorer and the Enterprise exhibit at NASM Udvar-Hazy are the closest that most people will get to an actual space shuttle until they are retired.
It was quite hot in the East Bay causing not only the fog to linger over the water, but also making it impossible to get a sharp zoomed in photo.
Tim Morello, Jeff Kowing, Thomas Matthews, Land Fleming, and Cecilia Breigh (r-l) watch the last space shuttle launch via the NASA TV cable service.
I snapped this one through the trees as it flew by. We went to my friend's house who lives up in the hills and watched from her deck. It was so thrilling!

As seen through windows on the aft flight deck of Space Shuttle Discovery, the payload bay is featured in this image photographed by a STS-116 crewmember during flight day two. Pictured in the payload bay is the Spacehab module and the boom is on the left. The shuttle's docking mechanism is visible in the foreground.
