half finished illustration for Pulse Today, Doctor Weavings diary.

Doctor weaving has a visit to number 10 Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State.

Dr Peter Weaving is a GP and locality lead in Cumbria.

Because of Doctor Weavings commissioning success, he and his consortium have been tasked with putting the reforms that the government has asked for into practice. The way ahead look s difficult and troubled, somewhat like a mountain pass!.

I used the title of the piece "pathfinder lift off" as a starting point and used the fells of cumbria for the metaphorical path, I used the view from Great Moss up to scarfell pike and put the Number ten door at the foot of the fells!

Arco No.5006 – Arco simply called this toy Space Rocket, even though it looks more like a heavy ground assault vehicle. It appeared to be a standalone item, not part of a series or intended to augment any other manufacturer’s toy line. It was certainly too small to work with the popular 3¾” action figures of the time. Its specialty was that it could, without batteries, light up, make a motor sound and race along the ground just by pushing it! 9⅜“ long, made in Hong Kong, 1979, $6.99.

The Apollo Lunar Module (LM), also known as the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM), was the lander portion of the Apollo spacecraft built for the US Apollo program by Grumman to carry a crew of two from lunar orbit to the surface and back. Six such craft successfully landed on the Moon between 1969–1972. This is one of them on display in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. (Washington DC, USA, Oct. 2006)

The Space Girl was ordered to investigate the Space Station. But she did not expect to find it flooded by hundreds of slimy, big toothed little monsters.

Here's a place in the world where the previous picture was taken. Moscow, Russia, some 8 km almost due North from Kremlin :) Chech it out on Google map..

Today this place's official name is Vserossiyskiy Vystavochnyy Tsentr ("All-Russian Exhibitions Centre") The first impression, one might get after having visited the 'Centre', could suggest a 'big recreational, amusement, entertainment, educational, commercial park - 'all in one'.

However, originally, (long time ago, in 1939) the park was created with an idea of displaying all the 'grandeur' of the Soviet Union achievements. In late 50s, and 60s, 'Cosmos', or 'Space Exploration' achievements, became no doubt one of the greatest breakthroughs where the country had a world lead for many years.

So, this spot is right in from of the 'Cosmos' pavilion on the 'VVTs' territory. And pointed in the sky is a legendary 'R-7' rocket, exact copy of the same launcher that blasted off in 1961 with the First ever Man in space, Yuri Gagarin.

Although it is not too old picture, the scene has changed this summer. The plane is gone now. And I'll post a few more pictures showing WHERE it has gone to..

Third stage of the Europa One rocket. Liverpool World Museum.

The sign on the wall says, 'The third stage rocket for the Europe 2 satellite launcher - this German rocket was part of the first all European project to launch satellites into orbit.

The British Blue Streak rocket provided the first stage with a French second stage. These were fitted beneath Astris with the satellite above it. Once out of the atmosphere, Astris provided the power to place the satellite in the correct orbit.

The main fuel tank is at the top. The fuels were mixed together under pressure in the cone-shaped chamber at the bottom, igniting on contact with each other. The two small control engines at the front and back, allowed changes of direction or extra thrust.

Several failed launches, escalating costs, and doubts about the project undermined confidence. The British Government withdrew in 1969 and the project was abandoned in 1973.

This rocket was built for test purposes, was first test fired in October 1968 and underwent several modifications during its life. It was also used for investigations into launch failures'.

Based simply on the date, thus a total SWAG: Possibly the launch vehicle for a Discoverer/Corona payload?

The answer possibly lies somewhere in here:

Pavilion 32

The Mechanization pavilion was built in 1939 under the design by architects V.S. Andreev, and I.G. Tarakanov. Since 1964, it has been called Aerospace. The pavilion is a historic and cultural monument of national significance.

Welcome to Racton Ruins. This folly is about a 4 mile drive into the sticks. I have been meaning to venture up here on a nice day for a while. So on Sunday i did after i finished some private work i had. Stuck in my dark office taking product shots, i was very keen to get out. :-)

Racton is a folly on a statelly estate inr West Sussex. Racton was built in the 18th Century for the Earl of Halifax. Very little is known of it's history or it's purpose. I was always lead to believe it was built to stop a town being built during the industrial revolution. But what do i know, but It has been said that the Earl could from the top of the tower watch his merchant ships returning on the solent.

Liège-Guillemins railway station is the main station of the city of Liège, the third largest city in Belgium. It is one of the most important hubs in the country and is one of the 3 Belgian stations on the high-speed rail network. The station is used by 36,000 people every day which makes it the tenth busiest station in Belgium.

History

In 1838, only three years after the first continental railway, a line linking Brussels and Ans, in the northern suburbs of Liège, was opened. The first railway station of Liège-Guillemins was inaugurated in May 1842, linking the valley to the upper Ans station. In 1843, the first international railway connection was born, linking Liège to Aachen and Cologne.

The station was modernized and improved in 1882 and in 1905 for the World Fair in Liège. This station was replaced in 1958 by a modern (for that time) one that was used until June 2009, a few months before the opening of the new Calatrava designed station.

New station

The new station by the architect Santiago Calatrava was officially opened on September 18, 2009, with a show by Franco Dragone. It has 9 tracks and 5 platforms (three of 450 m and two of 350 m). All the tracks around the station have been modernized to allow high speed arrival and departure.

The new station is made of steel, glass and white concrete. It includes a monumental arch, 160 metres long and 32 metres high. The building costs were €312 million.

Train services

Liège-Guillemins station is served by InterCity- and InterRegio trains, connecting Liège with all major Belgian cities, as well as several international destinations such as Aachen, Lille, and Maastricht. In addition to the national traffic, Liège-Guillemins station welcomes Thalys and ICE trains, connecting Liège to Brussels, Paris, Aachen, Cologne, and Frankfurt. Two new dedicated high-speed tracks were built: HSL 2 (Brussels-Liège) and HSL 3 (Liège-German border).

I wondered how they'd deal with the anti-climax of the Rocket not actually taking off. After blast-off they removed the top of the rocket and the Girl had vanished -- a great compromise.
