On the edge of many towns would be newer housing (new being a relative term in a country where many towns are from the 1500s with housing mostly from 100 to over 200 years ago). I don't know for sure but it looks Soviet so I assume it was built during the heyday of Soviet assistance in the seventies and eighties. Housing is a major problem in Cuba. Officially the state owns all property (including buildings and cars -though there are some exceptions) and so a family pays the state (about twenty cents a month) and eventually pay for it -though you can't sell it and if you leave the state gets it. Thus housing is cheap, but new housing is extremely hard to come by (the photo being an example of newer housing -though much of it is on the edge of cities, thus making transit an issue, in a country where buses are overcrowded or are non-existent). So most families live in the house they had before 1959 and their children and children's family live with them. Needless to say, it can be crowded.

The Soviet War Memorial (Sowjetisches Ehrenmal) in Berlin's Tiergarten was built following the Second World War to commemorate the lives of more than 300,000 Soviet soldiers killed in the conflict, 20,00 of whom died in the Battle of Berlin.

The column was designed by Nicolai Sergiejev and was unveiled on November 7, 1945 - the anniversary of the start of the October Revolution in Russia - and is made from marble taken from the headquarters of the Chancellor of the Third Reich.

Atop the column stands a bronze sculpture of a Soviet soldier by Lew Kerbel, while around the memorial stand two Soviet tanks, supposed to be the first to reach the city. The monument also serves as a cemetery for around 2,500 soldiers killed in the war.

The monument was in West Berlin while the city was divided by Soviet soldier were allowed access.

Aqua themed Soviet mosaics in a disused swimming facilty. 2025.

One year prior a new Oakley logo in the style of the old USSR was leaked, but didn't seem to pop up anywhere. At last two styles ended up with the logo and overall theme of the Soviets. The Gascan appeared first followed by the Hijinx. As is customary for the newer artwork pieces, the box and microbag are fully printed with a complimentary design, but we are also treated to a pin and cardboard plaque as well. For a premium of only $20 or so opposed to the $50 most of the artwork pieces run, this is a unique offering. The only downside is the fact that only one stem has the print.

In November 2012 there was cool exhibition on Soviet Design in Manezh exhibition centre, Moscow. This poster was given away - quite unusual for Russia today - and illustrated simple fact: there was design in USSR... and sex too.
