Carl August von Steinheil (1801-1870) was a German Astronomer and optical pioneer. He invented the best corrected lens of his time, the Aplanat. The firm he founded, Steinheil München, produced lenses into the 1970s. Steinheil lenses had their heyday with the Exakta cameras. They are beautifully made. both optically and mechanically.
