This was the brainchild of Stephanie, but I know that all the girls helped with ideas. She chose a large charm pin for me to hide on the hem of my skirt with all my special treats!

Something old = Martha Sass - a fellow thesbian, and sweet friend all around, she never admits her age, and we all joke that she and jesus were busting out karoke in the old days

Something new = Narwhal - Um yeah, I freaking LOVE narwhals, nuff said

Something borrowed = A gun - from Assassins when Steph and I rocked the stage at CTG, and I had a little charm made for her from, yes Etsy

Clothes are so over rated, Sunday night was ready for me to just wear the bed cushion.

I just found out that I love tea. My mom told me that I did, and at first I didn't believe her, so that just made me all the more shocked to find that out.

From the footprints of Pruitt-Igoe’s destruction, something new grows. Food. One in seven St. Louis families is food insecure, and the number is likely higher in Pruitt-Igoe’s context. RE-GROW PRUITT-IGOE seeks to create an urban agriculture development which provides jobs, food, and revitalizes the community of St. Louis. Food routes are created to distribute food to local farmer markets, community centers, and retailers. The site becomes a catalyst for future development.

The approach of this project considers the psychological and physical issues with the current day site. What makes a new proposal any different from the original Puritt-Igoe? A new proposal should improve the lives of people beyond the site boundary, become a catalyst for future development, and become a place people are proud to call their own. A quality of life experienced by Pruitt-Igoe’s former residence cannot be repeated.

Most urban design proposals will not address these imperative issues in the same way urban food development does. Furthermore, how can we be certain future proposals will not repeat the failure of Pruitt-Igoe?

I first learned Pruitt-Igoe’s history in academia research. I was instantly intrigued with how Puritt-Igoe could be regarded as a success but fail so quickly. The physical destruction of the site had an obvious end, but psychological issues continue to impact the site. Visitors, locals, and past residents drive by the site and know what once existed there. This negative nostalgic feeling will be unfairly placed on any new proposal.

It is the goal of RE-GROW PRUITT-IGOE to remove this connotation to restore pride to the site and neighborhood beyond. Furthermore, this proposal seeks to lower food costs and provide locals cheaper, locally grown food. Pruitt-Igoe can become a site remembered for what grew there, not what fell.

Kitchen Towels! I like them better than I thought I would.

I'm bringing them to my event today to see how they do - that will determine whether I fly with it.

Yes, baby, something new, for you!

This was January's them of A Month of Softies.

I made that painting in 1997, when I was 14 ; it was my first (and last) oil painting.

And , in the right side, the felted version ten years after.

Here's a cute little address book. It's so tiny and so cute that I just want to take it home and give it a bowl of warm milk and a bed in the corner.

This address book is covered in hand-marbled paper made in the paintfloats studio. The textblock is cased in by hand and adhered with archival PVC adhesive.

Something new arrives! The Hasuki Pocket Arts line is something I've recently become familiar with. I don't think any of them have actually been any particular IP, I guess they've just been too boring or something. But the face sculpt of Fiona here caught my eye and it's not out of the realm of my normal figure price, so i figured why not.

1/12 figure, comes decently packed, though unfortunately things are easily lost and are fragile. In my case, the smaller welding tip went MIA and one of the hoops on the belt came unglued and flew off to god only knows where.

Like a good number of these Chinese start up companies, this line utilizes a pre made 1/12 scale body and they effectively play dress up. Now, having said this, this is probably the first time that I've seen a Female body without a significant bust line. Variety is nice, and they don't all need to be bikini supermodels. Having said that, the small size combined with the smooth nature of the plastic results in her top just sliding down to her waist for no particular reason other than Fiona likes to flash people with her itty biddies.

Each of the beautiful face sculpts can have their eyes repositioned, which is pretty standard these days. Great sculpting work on the googles and hair. The other parts of the figure are nicely sculpted as well, especially the welding equipment itself.

She has a very unique look, a combination of playful sexy with effectively metal shop class. She's got some decent looking overalls, but like any good Female anime-esque character, there's no way she'd ever pass OSHA standards.

While she does come with a fwe nicely done tools, Fiona can really just hold the welding torch and the Pipe Wrench. The Screwdriver and Pliers have no hands that can actually hold them, and the loop is too big for the Screwdriver, so these just stayed in the packaging. What's interesting is that while the hand can hold the Welding Torch, it's clearly a better fit for the smaller one, as that extra handle limits where I can put the thing and I fear for its breakage.

Articulation is actually not as good as you'd think. There's no butter shoulder but there is that double ball joint with the larger shoulder socket, so you do get better than average shoulder articulation. But other wise, what you see is what you get on the upper body. The lower body is weird. While Fiona is wearing baggy clothes, the actual body itself has some pretty mediocre hip articulation so sitting poses and other such things aren't actually that accessible. The waist turns fine but the back arch isn't great, though the ab crunch is tolerable. Chest level articulation seems to favour twisting only, despite being capable of more. So all in all, if you're not pushing the legs, you'll be fine.

Paint Applications are beautiful. Yeah the flesh coloured stuff is the plastic, but everything else is nicely done. Sanile Shell is pretty solid, and I have to say these guys are probably a step above them. Of course, it's only been one figure so it's not something that I can say conclusively But I CAN say that Fiona is a looker, even down to the things like hands which are typically not an area of strength for any manufacturer..

Build Quality wise, as I mentioned I'm not sure why the body seems stiff to operate. On the other hand, the elbow joints are a bit loose so I guess I can't win. There also appears to be an issue with glue just drying out and giving up on life, which is how I ended up losing that tiny loop. I'm also confused why the holding hands are not comprehensive and seem to only feature one size of grip, despite there being several options in the set.

Drawing time today’s been given over to finishing the “painting” of my pencil drawing for Colored Pencil 1 -- which was supposed to have been finished in December. Wednesday is the second session of the advanced class and I’d really like to have this done and my new drawing started! I took a break when I thought I’d go pie-eyed and went for a walk. Spotted several cedars; one was turning an interesting pale orange in patches. Up close, I could see the buds swelling, so I brought a bit home to keep an eye on (and maybe draw). For fun, I photocopied it live. That worked so well, I scanned it, too. Getting the end of the stem on the glass and weighting down the lid helped with focus and brightened the background.

What’s new: direct copying and scanning, from a live specimen.
