Solution pockets are variably-shaped cavities extending into the walls of limestone caves. They are dissolutional features, usually preferentially developed along certain bedding planes (most likely representing minor unconformities). They are also often developed along joints in cave ceilings. Solution pockets appear to form principally during high-flow events (floods) in the phreatic zone, which results in slightly acidic water being forcefully infiltrated along bedding planes and joints.
These examples are in Gothic Avenue, in western Kentucky's Mammoth Cave, the longest cave on Earth. As of fall 2023, 426 miles have been explored and mapped.
Gothic Avenue is developed in limestones of the Paoli Member of the Girkin Limestone (lower Upper Mississippian). This cave passages is at level B in the Mammoth Cave system. Level B is the 2nd-oldest and 2nd elevationally-highest set of passages in the system. Level B passages started forming during the Pliocene, 2 to 4 million years ago. A subterranean river used to flow through here.

এই গ্রীষ্মে হিট স্ট্রোক হওয়ার ঝুঁকিতে থাকেন অনেকেই। যারাই দিনের কিছু সময় বাইরে কাটাচ্ছেন, তারা এতে আক্রান্ত হতে পারেন। নীরবে হিট স্ট্রোকে আক্রান্ত হতে পারেন সব বয়সের মানুষ। হিট স্ট্রোক থেকে নিরাপদে থাকতে এর কারণ, লক্ষণ এবং ঝুঁকিগুলো জানা থাকা উচিত।
বিশেষ করে কিছু কিছু কাজে হিট স্ট্রোকের ঝুঁকি অনেকগুণ বাড়তে পারে। এগুলো হলো—
১) আপনি হিট স্ট্রোকের বিপদের ব্যাপারে জানেন না
আপনার শরীরের অভ্যন্তরীণ তাপমাত্রা যখন ৪০ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াসের চেয়ে বেড়ে যায় এবং আপনার শরীর এই তাপ কমাতে পারে না, তখনই আপনার হিট স্ট্রোক হতে পারে। হিট স্ট্রোকের লক্ষণগুলো হলো—বমি, বমি ভাব, দ্রুত হৃদস্পন্দন, মানসিক বিভ্রান্তি, প্রচণ্ড মাথাব্যথা, ত্বক উত্তপ্ত, লালচে হওয়া এবং মাথা ঘোরা। অবস্থা আরও খারাপ হলে খিঁচুনি এবং চেতনা হারানোর মতো ঘটনা দেখা যায়। এসব ক্ষেত্রে অনেকে পরিস্থিতির গুরুত্ব বুঝতে পারেন না। এই লক্ষণগুলো দেখা দিলে খুবই দ্রুত চিকিৎসা নেওয়া জরুরি, নয় তো শরীরের বিভিন্ন অঙ্গ ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হতে পারে।
২) আপনি বেশি কাপড়-চোপড় পরে আছেন
গাঢ় রঙের পোশাক এবং কয়েক স্তরের পোশাক আপনার হিট স্ট্রোকে আক্রান্ত হওয়ার ঝুঁকি বাড়ায়। হালকা, ঢিলেঢালা পোশাক পরুন। আঁটসাঁট পোশাকও ক্ষতি করতে পারে।
৩) আপনি সানস্ক্রিন ব্যবহার করছেন না
অনেকেই সানস্ক্রিন লোশন বা ক্রিমকে প্রসাধনী মনে করে তাচ্ছিল্য করেন। কিন্তু তা মোটেই ঠিক নয়। সানস্ক্রিন ব্যবহার না করলে স্কিন ক্যান্সার এবং সানবার্নের ঝুঁকি বাড়ে। অন্যদিক সানবার্ন হলে হিট স্ট্রোকের ঝুঁকি বাড়ে। এ কারণে এসপিএফ ৩০ বা তার বেশি মাত্রার সানস্ক্রিন ব্যবহার করুন। বাইরে যাওয়ার ৩০ মিনিট আগে সানস্ক্রিন মেখে নিন। আর বেশি সময় বাইরে থাকলে প্রতি দুই ঘণ্টা পরপর তা নতুন করে মাখুন। এ ছাড়া ঘাম, সাঁতার বা তোয়ালে দিয়ে শরীর মোছার পর আবার সানস্ক্রিন মাখুন।
৪) আপনি গরমের মাঝে ব্যায়াম করছেন
সম্ভব হলে এই আবহাওয়ায় বাইরে দৌড়ানো বা ব্যায়াম না করে ঘরের ভেতর ব্যায়াম করুন। বাইরে যদি ব্যায়াম করতেই হয়, তাহলে একদম সকালে অথবা বিকেলে রোদ পড়ে যাওয়ার পর ব্যায়াম করুন। প্রতি ১৫ মিনিট পরপর অল্প করে পানি পান করুন। ব্যায়াম ছাড়াও বাগান করা, কনসার্টে যাওয়া বা খেলাধুলা এ সময়ে হিট স্ট্রোকের ঝুঁকি বাড়ায়। আপনার যদি অতীতে হিট স্ট্রোক হয়ে থাকে, তাহলে বেশি সতর্ক থাকা উচিত।
৫) আপনি পানির অভাবে ভুগছেন
গরমের মাঝে ঘাম হয় বেশি, এ কারণে পানির অভাবেও ভুগতে পারেন আপনি। পানির অভাব বোঝার সবচেয়ে ভালো উপায় হলো মূত্রের রং পর্যবেক্ষণ। মূত্রের রং বেশি হলদেটে হয়ে গেলে বুঝতে হবে পানির অভাব হয়েছে। যথেষ্ট পানি পান করুন। বেশি ঘাম হলে স্যালাইন পান করতে পারেন।
৬) আপনি অসময়ে বাইরে যাচ্ছেন
আপনি যদি হিট স্ট্রোক এড়াতে চান তাহলে দিনের সবচেয়ে উত্তপ্ত সময়ে বাইরে না যাওয়াই ভালো। সকাল ১০টা থেকে বিকেল ৪টার মাঝে বাইরে বের হবেন না। এ সময়ে সূর্যের আলো সবচেয়ে তীব্র থাকে। এ সময়ে বাইরে বের হতে চাইলে খুব সতর্ক থাকুন।
৭) আপনি ইতোমধ্যেই অসুস্থ
হৃদরোগ, ফুসফুসের রোগ, কিডনির রোগ, ওবেসিটি, উচ্চ রক্তচাপ এবং ডায়াবেটিস হিট স্ট্রোকের ঝুঁকি বাটায়। ৬৫ বছরের বেশি বয়সী এবং চার বছরের কম বয়সীদেরও ঝুঁকি বেশি। কিছু কিছু ওষুধও হিট স্ট্রোকের ঝুঁকি বাড়ায়। এ ব্যাপারে আপনার চিকিৎসকের সঙ্গে কথা বলে নিন।
৮) কখন চিকিৎসা নিতে হবে তা জানেন না আপনি
আপনি নিজে বা অন্য কেউ হিট স্ট্রোকে আক্রান্ত হয়েছে কি না তা শনাক্ত করা খুবই জরুরি। উচ্চ তাপমাত্রা, ব্যায়াম (শারীরিক শ্রম), বিভ্রান্তি—এই তিনটি বিষয় পরপর দেখা দিলে বুঝতে হবে চিকিৎসা নেওয়া জরুরি। দ্রুত ওই ব্যক্তিকে ঠান্ডা জায়গায় নিতে হবে, পানি পান করাতে হবে, পোশাক ঢিলে করে দিতে হবে এবং জলপট্টি দিতে হবে।
