I took a walk in the woods to clear my mind. There was a light that broke through the mist and gave me solutions...

How many people can remember that red plastic container of bubble solution with the stick inside that you can blow through to make bubbles? This is thought I had when I rested my tripod on Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast.

The weight of the sky and all of its fabulous sunset glory was a perfect way to cap off an incredible day in the Pacific Northwest of the USA.

the glass facade of the Yapı Kredi Gallery in Galatasaray. Like a puzzle not the solution but process is the real prize.

I celebrated the return of sunshine by experimenting with new liquid combinations when using my macro lens. Adding balsamic vinegar to my water/olive oil mixture just didn't seem to give me what I desired. Then I added drops of red food coloring to the solution. The tiny drops of red stayed in the center of the oil...looking like little glistening rubies. What fun!

The raccoon is a mammal native to North America. It is the largest of the procyonid family, having a body length of 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 in), and a body weight of 5 to 26 kg (11 to 57 lb). Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur, which insulates it against cold weather. The animal's most distinctive features include its extremely dexterous front paws, its facial mask, and its ringed tail, which are common themes in the mythologies of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas surrounding the species. The raccoon is noted for its intelligence, as studies show that it is able to remember the solution to tasks for at least three years. It is usually nocturnal and omnivorous, eating about 40% invertebrates, 33% plants, and 27% vertebrates.

The original habitats of the raccoon are deciduous and mixed forests, but due to their adaptability, they have extended their range to mountainous areas, coastal marshes, and urban areas, where some homeowners consider them to be pests. As a result of escapes and deliberate introductions in the mid-20th century, raccoons are now also distributed across central Europe, the Caucasus, and Japan. (Wikipedia)

This raccoon decided it was time to wake up from his winter hibernation and came out to enjoy an early spring day. We were very surprised to see that he was missing his entire striped tail. The loss did not seem to hamper his agility though as he bounded up this tree.

CP empty grain train no.331 is on the pull out of Toronto after making a two car setoff as well as fuelling up the engines and swapping crews. Apparently the leader here had multiple defects reported, one of which being a broken bell button which was being held together by a band-aid. Paraphrasing, but the conversation on the scanner went something along the lines of this:

Crew: "so you want us to just go ahead when there's literally a band-aid holding this button in place? It's kind of disgusting"

West Tower: "That is correct, I'm sure the band-aid is there specifically to hold that button in place, not like it came off someone, the planner said to just go ahead and leave because he's unable to fix it here on the spot".

Never a dull moment around these parts.

Residential block, built in 1926 to a design by Bureau Gulden and Geldmaker.

This block does have an unmistakable "Amsterdam School" appearance, especially due to the attractive corner solution.

Architects Gulden and Geldmaker excel in usually more sober designs, but they could indeed come up with expressive designs (amsterdamse-school.nl).

The Amsterdam School is a style of architecture that arose from 1910 through about 1930 in the Netherlands. The Amsterdam School movement is part of international Expressionist architecture, sometimes linked to German Brick Expressionism (Wp).

Frustrated over the amount of mail he has to handle each winter, Santa came up with a brilliant solution, that not only freed him from the drudgery of reading badly spelt wish-lists, but also knocked a considerable amount off his heating bill.

So this winter, send Santa a long list to keep him warm :)

Due to some unforeseen circumstances I almost didn't meet my own deadline for tonight (2021/07/31) and simply grabbed the first thing that I could lay my hands on.

This one is definitely going to bring back some memories.

To keep it interesting I decided to remove the name and model number! 😁

Take a look and then take your best shot at what this is!

I am really looking forward to your guesses!

Your correct, wild, imaginative, out of the box and out of this world guesses are being looked forward to. 😁

Post as many guesses as you like!

As usual the answer will be posted in a few days' time. Enjoy!

Bought this many, many moons ago when it was still high tech!

The two sticks hold aloft two strands of thick soft cord soaked in bubble solution, one short and one long. When the sticks are pulled apart a sort of hoop is formed between the two strands, and slight wind or movement can balloon out extremely large long bubbles. I would have liked to see just how long these large sausage shaped bubbles could last, and whether they would separate into a string of bubbles, or simply shrink into one gigantic bubble.

But as usual the competitively destructive children outnumbered the co-operatively scientifically curious :-)

The bubble surfaces shimmered with iridiscent reflections. Very hard to catch in a photograph, not sure why.

Photography information: All of the images in this database were captured with the Macropod.

The Macropod is a rigid, portable photomacrography system, which allows the user to make razor sharp, fully focused photographs of small sized specimens at 18 to 26-megapixel resolution. It overcomes the extreme Depth of Field (DOF) limitations inherent in optics designed to image smaller specimens. Normally, lenses designed for macro will only render a very small fraction of the depth of targeted specimen in sharp focus at any one exposure. The Macropod allows the user to select and make multiple exposures in precise increments along the Z-axis (depth) such that each exposure’s area of sharp focus overlaps with the previous and next exposure. These source images are then transferred to a computer and merged by an image-stacking program. Zerene Stacker is used to find and stitch together only the focused pixels from each exposure into one image. The Macropod integrates industry-leading components in a novel and elegant way to achieve these results.
