The calmness of water has always given me comfort and the opportunity for self reflection. - Acadia National Park.
Why solace?
Because when the world around us seems so hopeless and out of control, one looks at a branch covered in ice - but with a bud on an offshoot that holds much promise for the future.
Solace. That’s what Nature offers us.

"The mother loves her child most divinely, not when she surrounds him with comfort and anticipates his wants, but when she resolutely holds him to the highest standards and is content with nothing less than his best." - Hamilton Wright Mabie
Seen on Wilcox Pass Trail, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
Wilcox Pass may be the most unforgettable hike that I explored in Jasper National Park this summer. You will find outstanding views of the surrounding snow-crowned peaks, wildflower-blanketed meadows and creek-licked glacier scars. All these elements are an eternal source of solace to me.
I've been walking in this deserted ship for over an hour and I haven't found slightest hint of any of the crew. I was sent here to look for the crew and I haven't found anyone. I'm hearing lots of noises though. Bumping and scratching mostly, but there seems to some sort of howling too. It's just eerie. The power is on and there isn't any sign of major damage. I feel like something is going to pop out at me any second. What is going on here?
More lighting experiments! I really how this one turned out. It only took about me twenty minutes to build.

Solace.
He stood there for some time just staring out to sea, the whole time he seemed oblivious to the small rippling waves that rolled over his feet.
What ever his thoughts were we will never know but for a short time he and the sea became one.
For he found solace in the sea.

The skeleton hand reached from the ground towards Mr Squirrel. Instead of running in fright, he reached over and put his hand on the ragged bones...It's okay, said Mr. Squirrel, friends are friends, forever!
The last of her kind, Solace was sent to earth to seek friendship and to give comfort.

In time of pain, fear or struggles, each of us seeks refuge or behave in different way.. no right or wrong. It is simply how we are individually wired.
Do you ever find yourself searching for that kind of presence? The quiet one, where silence itself comforts, where an embrace speaks without words, where arms hold you so tightly they hush everything else, giving you a place to confide, without a single word, all the things you cannot release into the open air. Perhaps we all need, sooner or later, to be tenderly smothered, suffocated by compassion for our deepest misfortunes, bound by our mute sorrows and unspoken suffering. Isn’t that a sublime necessity? To be held by someone of our own choosing. To surrender, willingly, as a prisoner of tenderness. To yield ourselves to the one who, without even knowing it, gathers our most secret wound, the one whose presence warms us and dares to confront the fiercest shadows within.
As with all things, fire gives way to ashes, quietly, beneath the soothing music of its crackle keeping the memory, but lifting away the burn. What a beautiful kind of healing it is, the one that does not sink into oblivion. For sometimes, a certain wound cries out within us, a pain that can only be mended in the unseen refuge of comfort. Could this be it, the simple, aching need to be consoled?
