This was shot years ago on a workshop in Death Valley. This was processed through HDR sofware. What struck me was the strange light bathing the foreground.

Do not under estimate this man. One day this photo will be famous.

This image was taken from 1 RAW and converted in to 4 shots +1EV, +2 EV normal, -1EV. From this then "Photo-Dynamic HDR4". That gets you most the way there. I used "Eye-catching" and "Dramatic light radius and strenght" up to max. Then first edit in Photo-Bee. In this use the "Soft Studio Light" which gives a diffused look.

The next process is a little more difficult and takes some practice. CS4 photoshop and you need to use "Accented Edges" with Edge width 2, brightness 22, and smoothness 1. Take care with this as you may need to modify this setting a bit.

Next use burn/dodge to balance hard/soft areas on the face for example.

You may also need to use curves and colour settings to tweak things.

Finish with "Smart Sharpen on default settings to start with and that will probably do it.

Good luck.

It seems few people want to give these secrets away.

This technique works wonders on dark wooden surfaces and works well on buildings like St Pauls in London in this shot.

NGC7814 is a Sab type galaxy about 40 millions light-years away in the Pegasus constellation. This beautiful edge-on spiral with many background little galaxies that can be seen through it is a great opportunity for astronomers to study gas and dust properties of the NGC7814 halo. It is sometimes called "the little sombrero" in reference to Messier 104.

Infinite Weft is a project to expore the creative & mathematical possibility space of weaving patterns. These samples are woven from patterns generated from various simple cellular automata, including two non-repeating systems.

You can experiment with the sofware used to produce these patterns here:

The Anderton Boat Lift, built in 1875 is a 2 caisson lock lift giving a 50-foot (15.2 m) vertical link between two navigable waterways: The River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal.

If you look at the bottom left of the lift you can see a narrowboat going into the right hand caisson, that gives some idea of the size of the thing..it is HUGE!!..We came down it a few days ago with another boat ( There is room for 2 narrowboats side by side) and as we went down a large trip boat passed us going up in the other caisson.

It works by oil hydraulics and there is one very big hydraulic piston holding up and lifting /lowering the caissons.

I drove in from the Trent and Mersey across the aqueduct (seen at the back of the lift in this picture) & onto the lift and then once in the caisson ( and it was a tight fit for our 70 ft boat!) a big gate comes down and the boat is sealed in the trough with the water.

The Boat Lift is designated as a Scheduled Monument. and is a National Heritage site.

This flock of birds was huge and was flying over the water then landing on all the elderberry bushes nearby, then taking off again.

The Mersey is just over the hedge to the right and they seemed to favour that side rather than this, so although I waited and waited to get a better and closer shot of them this was the best one.

I've reprocessed this shot from the original. The original was a 3-shot HDR but I was never quite happy with it as I could get rid of the blown highlights in the clouds. I've since gotten Nik Sofware's bundle and re-processed this with their Define noise reduction and Silver Ex Pro black and white processing. This is an outstanding set of software and the result is much better.

In fact, I had reprocess this solely in Lightroom and made a custom-framed print now hanging in our house (so I'm actually replacing the replacement) and I'm going to replace the print with this one - the overall contrast and sharpness is much better and I like the slightly darker sky.
