Finally got me an Adroid app that is a good approximation to a DSLR, in that I have more control of various settings in app, to manipulate the outcome of the photo I am composing.
Doesn't shoot pure RAW, I think that depends on your phone's model, but shooting in .PNG, still, somehow, not completely though, makes a photo easy to edit without losing sooo much information on the photo.
Anyways, I was inspired by the shots of Logan from TekSyndicate with his Android phone, and I thought, this coupled with my DSLR, makes for great ways to shoot/document my various activities, etc.
And this huge package of milk chocolate almonds was given to me by Drs. Angeles and Romero, because I designed invitations for their upcoming event in the Dept of Ob-Gyne.
So, yeah, just wanted to test if this baby would be able to take decent enough photos to post process...

I received an email from a coworker about a retiring professor trying to retrieve data off of old computers. Our central IT was unable to assist due to the age of the machines. The professor was trying to move files from a Mac OS X 10.2, 10.4, and NeXT computer. My heart skipped a beat after that reading that last one. Moving the vintage Mac files would be no problem because I keep those tools handy. I restore vintage Apple //, Macintosh, and other hardware as a hobby.
If you don't know what a NeXT computer is, it's this insanely expensive computer built by Steve Jobs after he was ousted from Apple in the 1980's. It ran Unix, had a gorgeous graphical user interface, and if you use OS X today it is still the foundational basis for the operating system. It was lightyears ahead of anything else out there at the time. Have you ever visited a website before? The first webpage was served on a NeXTcube.
I've never seen a working NeXT computer before though. I saw one in Berlin in a museum and read about them extensively, but I had no idea that our university actually had them.
I immediately went to the professor's office and he showed me what he was trying to do. We talked a little bit about vintage hardware and I told him that I'd never seen a working NeXT before. I was a little hesitant to respond because day-to-day we're flooded with tickets IT support isn't really my thing. Sometimes users, especially tenured professors, need a delicate approach because of their demands. This person could not have been more affable, kind, and good hearted. After talking a while he said he would rather have the hardware saved than go to scrap per university policy.
In the interest of archiving his data and this magnificent hardware I will be cooperating with him to save this NeXT computer. I've also agreed to save the Mac Cube and Power Macintosh G3. Twist my arm. They'll become archive computers if anyone needs a WordPerfect 3.5 file converted. Yes, people still have those.
I decided to document everything in place before moving it all to a secure location. That includes the NeXT computer, original manuals, flyers, software, printers, accessories, and even the original boxes.
The plan is to document EVERYTHING in detail. So stay tuned for future updates.

Bath is the largest city in the ceremonial county of Somerset, England, known for its Roman-built baths. In 2011, the population was 88,859. Bath is in the valley of the River Avon, 97 miles (156 km) west of London and 11 miles (18 km) south-east of Bristol. The city became a World Heritage Site in 1987.
The city became a spa with the Latin name Aquae Sulis ("the waters of Sulis") c. 60 AD when the Romans built baths and a temple in the valley of the River Avon, although hot springs were known even before then.
Bath Abbey was founded in the 7th century and became a religious centre; the building was rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries. In the 17th century, claims were made for the curative properties of water from the springs, and Bath became popular as a spa town in the Georgian era. It's got all kinds of picture filters to change pictures. Don't know how often I'll be using it, because I do like my pictures the way I see them not just with enhancers. Here is the screen capture of the Windows version of my IRG transformation program, written in Visual Basic 2010 Express. This is a very early beta version 1.0. Not bad since I only started learning VB only a week ago. This program runs much much faster than my QBasic version.
I wanted the screen to be user friendly as well as informative, so the background explains what is being done to the image and the mathematical principles behind the software.
I also wanted to show all the channels before and after the mathematical transformation, so one could see (almost) instantaneously the changes to the matrices and the final image by applying different values for the gamma parameters, RX, RY, GX, GY.
I will post an "executable" of the program for others to test after I learn how to do that.
The text of the equations in the picture is a bit too small to read, so here it is.
MATHEMATICAL PRINCIPLES:
Original full-spectrum image is (R,G,B) = (Z1,Z2,Y)
Let Z1=(1-(1-X1)^(1/RX))*(1-Y)+(1-(1-Y)^(1/RY))*(1-X1)+X1*Y
To extract the Red channel, solve for X1 from known values of Y, Z1, RX, RY.
Let Z2=(1-(1-X2)^(1/GX))*(1-Y)+(1-(1-Y)^(1/GY))*(1-X2)+X2*Y
To extract the Green channel, solve for X2 from known values of Y, Z2, GX, GY
Derived IRG image is (R,G,B) = (Y,X1,X2)
To use these equations, reduce your pixels values to between 0 and 1. That is, divide Y, Z1, Z2 by 255 before plugging them into the equation. Multiply the derived X1 and X2 values by 255 to get your pixel value. RX, RY, GX, GY are somewhere between 1.0 and 5.0.
