Der Großraum Sofia ist einer der größten Ballungsräume auf dem Balkan und die mit Abstand wichtigste Metropolregion Bulgariens. Die Stadt ist gekennzeichnet durch einen interessanten Mix aus postsozialistischer Tristesse und postmodernem Schick. Insbesondere die Gastronomieszene in den Gassen des Sofioter Zentrums ist erlebenswert.
Built in 1913 as a mineral bath, the building is now a museum for the history of Sofia. Its architecture is in Secession style, while also incorporating typical Orthodox and Byzantine ornaments.
