Laughter is day, and sobriety is night; a smile is the twilight that hovers gently between both, more bewitching than either.
Henry Ward Beecher
At Aldeyjarfoss falls in Skjálfandafljót river, North Iceland.
This remarkable building dating from 1050 is one of the oldest Romanesque churches in the country. It is the only one to have preserved the dedicatory stone which commemorates the consecration of the church on June 20, 1050.
The exterior setting is pleasant with the old cemetery which surrounds the church and the centuries-old lime tree nearby. The building is built on a very simple plan: a central part and two lower side parts. The church is largely preserved in the original state of primitive Romanesque churches: small size, sobriety, simplicity of construction, balanced proportions. It is classified as an exceptional heritage site in Wallonia.
It contains interesting furniture, notably works by the master of Waha, superb statues of saints, the baptismal font, and, among contemporary elements, stained glass windows made by Louis-Marie Londot and those of Jean-Michel Folon which recall the martyrdom of Saint Stephen.
Hope?
is the surprise of reality
given in dreams
from the deepest realms of sobriety
in the qualm of hidden fear
the pulse?
has no finger to sanctify;
only acting on impulse
this time,
eradiating results of Spring
not for the first time,
nor the last rite it may bring
all the unsaved work,
of which, what becomes?
this quandary of ills
beget the forgotten heartbeaten drums
and is help at hand?
the same one
with a finger on the pulse
of coincidence undone
I'm pining away the good health
in adrenalin rushes
of forgiven co-insurance
that of life and the other side it brushes
I hear it all now
chanting in melodious trance
taking me further...away
a somewhat reflective glance
it is to be sure
the reign of health
that sovereign of "today"
exacts revenge upon lost "wealth"
those riches we plundered
reserves of yesterday they were
used up earlier leaving nothing
but a dry, empty tank to confer
can it really be so?
the relic of surviving the past
is but a ghost of tomorrow -
a premonition as yet unsurpassed.

Located in northern Burgundy, Fontenay Abbey was founded in 1118 by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, one of the greatest French saints, and is the oldest preserved Cistercian abbey in the world.
Classified as a French historic monument in 1862, it was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1981. It was one of the first French monuments to appear on this list, which thus distinguished the exceptional value of both the whole abbey of Fontenay as well as its natural environment.
The Fontenay abbey church is one of the oldest Cistercian churches in the world. Built between 1139 and 1147, it is also one of the rare Cistercian abbey churches from the 12th century that has survived intact to this day.
According to the will of Saint Bernard and the general chapter of the Order of Cîteaux, nothing in the church distracts the eye so that the whole being is turned towards God during daily services. This is why this building was built with great simplicity and constitutes a typical model of Burgundian Romanesque architecture: Latin cross plan, bare facade, capitals sculpted with simple foliage motifs, single row of side windows.
This simplicity hides many details and a particular attention of the building monks to harmony and symbolism, particularly with regard to proportions or the number of bays.
The choir is covered with enameled tiles from the 12th and 13th centuries. There is also a remarkable sculpted altarpiece from the 13th century, as well as a set of tombstones including that of the English bishop Ebrard of Norwich, who financed the construction of the abbey church.
The abbey church impresses with its remarkable state of conservation, its dimensions, its rigorous sobriety and its particular luminosity. There reigns an atmosphere of calm and serenity inviting admiring contemplation and meditation.
In the heart of the historic city of Cáceres stands the Convent of San Pablo, a cloistered monastery inhabited by Poor Clare nuns. Founded in the 15th century, the building displays the sobriety of late Gothic architecture, evident in its ogival arch doorway and bell tower in the shape of a belfry with three bells. Originally a beaterio, the space evolved into a convent, integrating Romanesque and Gothic elements. Today, the nuns devote themselves to the production of renowned artisanal sweets, such as “Yemas de San Pablo,” keeping traditional recipes alive. The Convent of San Pablo is part of the Old Town of Cáceres, a historic-artistic site classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1986, recognized for its unique fusion of architectural styles, with Gothic, Renaissance, Islamic, and Roman influences.
Although I am not religious, I like to visit a church. Sometimes to enjoy the often exuberant beauty of a Catholic church and other times the modest sobriety of a Protestant church. When the opportunity arises, we always light a candle for our loved ones (human and animal) who are no longer with us. This week, for example, in the Hartebrugkerk in Leiden.
The Hartebrugkerk is part of the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul. The official name is Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. The church is named after the bridge of the same name that was located in front of it at the time. The people of Leiden also know the church as the Coeliekerk, after the last word of the Latin motto above the entrance, Hic Domus Dei est et Porta Coeli (This is the house of God and the gate to heaven).

At the monument for the Oklahoma City Bombing victims, there is a fence where people leave momentos. I suppose they want to leave something particularly meaningful to them...something to express their feelings about this tragedy and the innocent lives taken.
I suspect a "Clean and Serene for 90 Days" key tag was very meaningful for the one who left it.

"I feel like I'm going to slip..." Her voice was clear and yet shaky all at the same time. Things weren't easy right now. Learning about an entire other side of reality, being alone in a new town... they were getting to her and she needed help.
Hearing his voice was usually almost annoying. He'd call her five, sometimes six times a day, just to check in, to make sure she was on track. At times he felt overbearing, but it was that sort of care and worry that kept her on a straight line. But now she was calling him, quietly asking for guidance and help and he had it to offer. She felt good enough to get home, not worried about taking a detour to the bar, not worried about heading to the store and grabbing a six-pack. And she was thankful for that. But what she didn't expect was the knock on her door a few hours later, bringing her the closeness she'd missed more than she could have ever thought. Ever since they were teenagers, Anthony knew how to take care of her, and right now that was just holding her and being the anchor she always needed, but sometimes forgot she had.

Stella gets a little reunion with her ex-fiance/AA sponsor, Anthony after confiding in him that she was struggling with her sobriety.

GPW Heavyweight Title Match
Bubblegum © vs. Dirk Feelgood
Just a few months ago you'd be forgiven for taking a double take at this match. The friendship between the two former friends totally imploded with the desire to become Heavyweight champion. Refusing to accept the demise of his friendship with Dirk Feelgood, Bubblegum spent months in turmoil not wanting to retaliate to the cutting comments and brutal attacks levelled his way by former friend and champion Feelgood. As time went by however, Bubblegum eventually unloaded on Feelgood but this will be the first time the two have ever come face to face in a one on one match. And to make things just a little more interesting... it's for the GPW Heavyweight Title. Can the fairytale championship reign continue for Bubblegum, or can Dirk shatter his dreams and become the first ever 2 time Heavyweight Champ?
Tag Team Special, Skeletor vs. Stella
Lethal Dose vs. Voodoo & "Sober" Mike Holmes
Alan Alan Alan Tasker's henchmen, Lethal Dose march into battle against former stable member Mike Holmes and the man they hold responsible for Holmes' new found sobriety - Voodoo. Cyanide and Toxic hope to tempt Holmes back over to the stable that two months ago he turned his back on. They want to snap him out of the spell they accuse Voodoo of putting him under. However, Holmes seems very happy with his new outlook on life and he and Voodoo look to send Lethal Dose packing in this tag team special. Lethal Dose have warned they will not be coming to the ring alone though, with them along with their attorney and law - Alan Alan Alan Tasker will be a 12 pack of Stella. Hoping the case of beer will prove to be a bigger demon to Holmes than the tag team itself. To fend off the 12 pack, Holmes and Voodoo will have Vooodoo's trusty skull, Skeletor in their corner. An unpredictable tag team match. Can MIke Holmes stay sober? Will Voodoo's spells work? Or will Lethal Dose deliver a beating big enough to break Voodoo's spell?
GPW British Title Match
Jak Dominotrescu vs. "Super" Sam Bailey
After pinning the British Champion last month in a tag team match, WKD's "Super" Sam Bailey has earned himself a title shot at GPW: "Christmas Crunch". Bailey, already a former tag team champion looks to add to his growing reputation by capturing his first ever singles gold in GPW. While reigning champion, Romanian Jak Domitrescu along with his cohorts - The Eastern Bloc look to make life as difficult as possible for the energetic live wire. Domitrescu has held onto the title since April this year with help from his fellow countrymen, but are his days numbered as champ? He surely wont be alone in this title outing and will have the Eastern Bloc close by, but can "Super" Sam Bailey overcome the odds to win his first singles gold in GPW?

MIl-Anfield Connection © vs. Young Offenders
The heat just got turned up in this feud. The re-united Young Offenders have the most established tag team in GPW - The Mil-Anfield Connection firmly in their sights and not to mention the tag team trophy. These two teams met in September this year where there was no clear winner decided after the match ended in a draw. There will be NO excuses this time to not find a winner. This, for the first time in our history will be a 2/3 Falls Match for the tag team titles. A winner HAS to be decided, but who will it be? A truley epic encounter is in our midst as Jiggy Walker & "The Model" Danny Hope try to cling onto the championship that has defined them as a team and "Dangerous" Damon Leigh & Joey Hayes, The Young Offenders chase the title that one of the most popular tag teams in Europe have never held. Can the re-united friends overcome the well established unit that is The Mil-Anfield Connection? Or can the well oiled duo of the Mil-Anfield do what they've been doing all year and win again?
GPW British Title No.1 Contenders Match
Harry Doogle vs. Juice vs. Dylan Roberts vs. Chris Echo
After an eye catchingly good year from rookie Dylan Roberts, he has been included in this battle to earn a shot at the British Title. With a burning desire to win and the fans firmly behind him, Roberts could well mark his arrival onto the main roster by becoming the No.1 Contender and going for gold here. However, his opponents wont give him an easy ride. In a wonderful CC-08 tournament, no one impressed more than WKD's Chris Echo. Echo reached the CC-08 finals with two broken wrists and proved he is ready to take a step up. His previous attempts for British gold have been thwarted by the foreign legion numbers of the Eastern Bloc, is he ready to prove again that he is worthy of being No.1 Contender and finally lift the British title? Juice, the current CC8 champion has been as impressive as ever in singles competition this year, but can he compete in this match with 3 others all vying to be No.1 Contender? Also replacing Jervis Cottonbelly due to injury is Harry Doogle as a last minute entry could one half of the next gen score the upset win? , but with so many possible outcomes who will leave with the plaudits and go on to challenge for the British Title next year?
Lumberjack Match
Si Valour vs. Heresy
A violent and personal feud that has lasted all year long finally comes to a head in what promises to be a violent Lumberjack Match. Ever since brutalising Valour and cutting off all his hair, Heresy has, in some form or other dodged the challenge of Valour. Heresy claimed not to have lost his bottle or be running scared of the 2007 Break Out Star, yet during their Bull Rope clash at GPW: "V" where the two were tied to one another, Heresy still managed to find a way of escaping and creating distance between him and Valour. This time, in a special Lumberjack Match, no matter where either man go - there will be no escape. All lumberjacks will be at the ready to ensure neither man can escape the others clutches and a clear winner, one way or the other will HAVE to be decided. There will be nowhere to run to and nowhere to hide, no matter where they look. Heresy has been one step ahead of Valour all year, is this where he runs out of excuses, or can the master manipulator manipulate another win?
The collegiate church of Santa María, also known as Iglesia de la Asunción, is a Catholic church located in the Huesca town of Ainsa in the autonomous community of Aragon in Spain.
It is a Romanesque-style church of important artistic value, being one of the most important architectural elements of its rich heritage. Of great magnitude and sobriety, it is one of the most outstanding examples of Aragonese Romanesque from Sobrar.
It has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).
The tower is the most representative element due to its size and sobriety. It is also built with irregular ashlar and has three unequal bodies. The ground floor acts as a portico or fish market formed by two discharge arches, giving access to both the church and the cloister. The buttress that can be seen from the outside is the extension that hides the staircase that goes up inside the wall.
On the first two floors there are observatories and arrows. The first performs a tribune function, since it gives access to the temple from above, while the third corresponds to the body of bells.
Its top floor is particularly noteworthy, with a cupola over horns and four rectangular section ribs, from where a magnificent panoramic view can be observed.

We're back at the Monaco Ballroom on Friday December 12th for the final show of 2008!! Make sure you make it to see how the year's feuds end at this season ending super show - GPW: "Christmas Crunch"
We promise we wont crunch your credit.... we'll only crunch your Christmas!!
And, the main event for the evening is...
GPW Tag Team Title 2/3 Falls Match

There was a rush of sun through these tightening clouds as the hours dropped towards dusk. But it glinted off the bluffs and these foxtales. It was a hardly a few seconds, but I was there with the RB67 - a camera that has become as much a part of my photography as my own eyes.
By the time I reached for another camera, the sun was gone and the light was dull and gray.

"Wabi" refers to the desire for sobriety, "sabi" stands for the nostalgic realization that everything passes. The idea behind the term is that things do not have to be perfect. The funny thing here is this is the root of weeds e the air was from an aerial photo and used as a texture.
Thanks have a nice day

Homage to Jenny Joseph
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
Brings to mind Jenny Joseph's lovely poem:
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.

Heaven help the silence
The heavenly silence
felt in spring
ahead of it's time
fringes become hearts
and this is just one lifetime
in hope, as in heaven
gracious is the light
used sparingly
in it's giving is our dream
for we endeavour so proudly
if our chance may encircle us
in esoteric intoxication
senses losing time
may we ride simulcasting ourselves
into sunlit discoveries sublime
we're the offering of opportunity
only within is your touch
of feeling, of emotion, of truth
it's the stimulation of etherealism
in the wanting of eternal youth
ethanol skies disperse, eventually
to the glimmer of twilight sobriety
essences of oneness musk the face
of hurts disappearance, to the night
and here lies the chance of pure embrace
becoming hearts frown the cold
imagine the mural of semblance
a line of keys opens the one gate
and all is still in our own hands
peace in our presence to await.

France, Alsace, Strasbourg, "Bistrot des Copains", Pub of the Friends, located in a picturesque mediaeval timber-framed house outside the tourist route on the corner of Place St. Louis & Quai Finkwiller. The bistro maintains a real postcard decor from the 1950s, which has retained the elegance & sobriety of our time, but offers a modern brewery cuisine.
In 1988 Strasbourg's historic city centre, the “Grande îll”, the Grand Island, was classified by the UNESCO as a World Heritage site, the first time such an honour was placed on an entire city centre. The most charming area is certainly „La Petit France“

A little bit of sunshine today and a longer route home.
Internet access is back at home (damn!) so back to sobriety normal.

Always Thinking of You.
I decided that since today is my beautiful daughter's 9th birthday.. That I would dedicate my photo post today, to her.
Olivia Rae, my beautiful baby girl.. Mommy misses you and loves you so much. You and your brother are always on my mind and tugging at my heart. It's been about 6 years since I held you last.. I know that you're 9 now, but when I dream of you, I see you as 2 & 1/2 still.. & Your brother & 7 & 1/2.
I dream of you two often.. and I pray for you two everyday.
They say everything happens for a reason.. And I do believe that... but I do wish things were different.
I pray that ONE DAY - we will see each other again, I hope that you two can forgive me, for my decisions & actions back then. It's been hard, but I'm finally reaching the point in forgiving myself.. & I truly do not think that I will ever 100% be able to, but I think I'm as close as I can get.
Two years ago, I made a decision to never pick up a drug or a drink again..
...My decision came with forgiveness of myself.. and because ONE DAY - if you & your brother EVER decide to look for me, I want to be something WORTH LOOKING FOR. I want to have a home, (I do), stability (I do), a stable job & income (I do), sobriety (I do) and real happiness (I do). That way if one day you do come looking for me, you'll be *hopefully* happy with what you see.
I have never stopped praying for you two.. I have never given up hope that one day we will see each other again.. I have never stopped dreaming of you.. I think of you two ALL DAY. & I always pray that no matter where you are, (I do know that you're together), and I pray for your happiness.. I pray for your safety. I pray for your smiles.. & I pray that you understand that I did NOT give you two up.. I would never. And I have never stopped loving you. Everything I do in my life, to better myself.. is with you in mind. Because, you deserve so much.. and I want to be able to give you the world.
Happy birthday Olivia. And I love you Johnny. & I hope that you two are happy, healthy and thriving.. & May God send the angels to always watch over you & hold you tight.
___________
& If you ever find this.. Here is my Facebook to you two..
I never stopped talking to you..
On the ceiling, a mosaic of Christ surrounded by personifications of ten virtues (obedience, abstinence, compassion, justice, poverty, sobriety, generosity, chastity, penitence and confession).
Below it are portrayals of Pope Leo IX - from nearby Eguisheim - who canonised Odile around 1050; and St. Eugénie, Odile's niece, who became the second abbesse of the convent following her aunt's death.
There's this empty feeling inside my head
that displaced my heart for the mind instead
it grows stronger as I grow weak
and now leaves me almost unable to speak
it's a trigger for the secluded world
to come into being after emotions swirled
helter skelter fashion so on the beat,
that self-styled sobriety can no longer compete
through the looking-glass comes to mind
presently, obsessively, two worlds combined
yet neither can be touched from the ghostly no-man's-land
of relics and artifacts from where such advances spanned
to detonate posthumously with an emotive breeze
a sonic cue awaits it's aftershock to tease
every nerve and fibre that's still able to feel
the effect upon other's living memory newsreel
so many ways to die with or without the will to live
yet loving loss penetrates deeper than all the bullets have to give
those that whistle past one's ear as you work
to get the job done or else we'll all go beserk
isn't that right...oh my, there's nobody left
just this solemnity of a melancholic world bereft
with no salute for the constant wartime
broken in pieces our youth in their prime
sickly contraptions feed inventive economy
when the globe has nowhere left for such autonomy
to run, away with itself! let's start another bloody war!
that way we'll give our depression a reason to go for
for the fight is the sanctuary of our long-hidden belief
that ultimately it's every man for himself in total disbelief
yes, war is the economic sanative like no other
it pains me to say, as we lose one life after another
what decisions remain ours in the cold warring light of day?
do we ultimately have anything of note left to say?
when all around has been lost to the very ills of time
with the only winners being patently incredible inventions sublime
my thoughts wonder, still in no-man's land, afraid to move
choices remain; a captive of political machines of which I disapprove
hunger under the starvation of regimes that prefer it so
or death, that'll liveth forevermore where the poppies grow.

I had a very skunky cup of the coffee this morning. By very skunky, I don't mean the undrinkable cup of robusta I had at Dunkin Donuts in Philadelphia. That, my friends, was the only cup of coffee(?) from which I've taken but one sip, and dropped into the recycling bin. Rather, this was the kind of skunky from which one takes a sip, complains of its inferiority, takes another sip and expresses another complaint, and thus carries on the pattern to the bottom of the cup.
Until this morning, I had thought the mermaid's consistent mediocrity to be utterly trustworthy. It may not be the finest there is, but you can always count on consistency.
The irony of it all is that I'm sitting in a very cool space staring at these two wonderful posters of my TOP TWO favorite coffees on the planet. Do you realize how cool is advertising for top shelf when you're sipping back-of-pantry-bottom-shelf fare?
There is a greater irony. I'm sitting in this cool space with two of my students/friends, discussing self-denial, sobriety of heart, and spiritual introspection with ashes on our foreheads in the golden light of dawn meant to bathe in hope the victims of Wednesday morning's storms . Add to that that everyone else in the room also is wearing ashes.
We're all sitting in the atmosphere of the epitome of american consumption (though for the purpose of community) discussing wilderness experience and upon every sip between sentences, I'm complaining inside about the skunkiness of my non-Harrar, and non-Sumatra.
Honestly, I wonder if anyone who harvested my favorite beans could afford the cup of skunky coffee I'm drinking.

Some also say "In vino, veritas ; in aqua, sanitas" (In wine, truth ; in water, health), emphasizing that water, on the other hand, is linked to sobriety and mental clarity.
All God's children need travelling shoes
Drive your problems from here
All good people read good books
Now your conscience is clear

Wipe the miles away
I like to think I can be so willed
And never do what you say.

As I grow, I change.. As I go further - I am grateful. I grow more and more grateful every single day. I grow stronger mentally - day by day. I often forget that I am even 'doing something', because most of the time it is so far out of my mind.. *my addiction*. But of coarse things come and go thru my week and remind me... and I just find myself being extremely grateful, that when drugs come up- I am no longer triggered. So grateful.
>>I prayed very hard for a long time for God to relieve me of not only my addiction, but the cravings/thoughts. And he has. In time. I am at 2 & 1/2 years, and very grateful. Truthfully, I never thought I'd get this far.. - In fact, DURING my addiction, I wasn't sure if I was going to make it out alive. But someone up there was looking out for me, that is for sure. I did make it out alive. Alive, in recovery and THRIVING! Amen!
◻◻◻◻◻◻◻◻◻◻
>> I do my very best to TRY to be a good influence to others - either in active addiction, recovery (new or old) & sober people as well. I hope to even be an inspiration of sorts, to those who have a family or close friend in active addiction.. when they believe it's NOT possible & there is NO HOPE.. - I hope that they see me. I hope that they knew me before, or hear stories... The photos really won't do my demon of a past justice.. I hope that they can see ME.. My Transformation.. & know NOT to give up HOPE for their loved ones.. & know that it IS POSSIBLE- although most of the time it doesn't feel that way at all.
I know how hopeless it feels, because I lived it TO THE MAX for many years. I allowed addiction to tear everything out of my life.. [everything IMPORTANT to me that I LOVED.] & Addiction had it's hands on me SO HARD... that I just watched the things and PEOPLE whom I loved with all of my heart .. go away. & Told myself that because it hurt - that I should go double or triple up- my normal dose to numb it more.. So I didn't have to feel anything at all anymore. And that excuse to numb everything away again, would make my addiction even stronger. The drug would wrap it's hands around my neck even tighter, and to numb the truth - the nightmare that had become my life.. and everything in my life.. I would happily numb the pain *if I could feel anything at all*.. Just so I didn't have to feel.

◻>>> People REALLY NEED TO UNDERSTAND that in MOST cases - people who are addicted to drugs ARE SELF MEDICATING. [FOR SOME REASON!]
>>Now whether they're self medicating for a mental illness (either mild or big) & yes this includes depression and anxiety which most people have.. - MOST ADDICTS ARE self medicating for mental illness of some type .. *this type of therapy in a rehab setting would be called, ""CO-OCCURING" I believe.
... In the rehab facilities they are VERY aware of this & cater directly to co-occurring addictions. They help their patients to get medicated (the right way).. So they begin to feel normal - or as normal as possible.
[Keep in mind, that drug addiction REALLY takes a toll on the brain and the chemicals in the brain.. ] So it could take A VERY LONG TIME - Years even.. to fully regain your natural balance of chemicals to feel 'normal again' ... to be honest.. Some of us.. did permanent damage which we have to learn to live with, it isn't fixable. *raises hand*] <- but that doesn't mean all hope is lost. It means you might have to take a medications for a long time, or forever.. to help even the balance.. And learn HOW to help yourself to feel better.. & get better. But know it is possible. If I can do this.. ANYONE CAN! && I truly mean that, guys.
◻◻◻◻◻
>>>I often hear from people (when they see me in person usually), how absolutely PROUD & surprised they are with my transformation. Most of them will go on to explain how they watched me for years - homeless, wandering the streets - high- not even knowing where I was going or what I was doing- a bag of bones.. face picked to hell and full of scabs- dirty.. and they were all waiting to hear that I overdosed. My family was dreading that phone call, but almost knew it was coming, unfortunately. I believed this too.. that I would probably die soon. So I actually went as far as to tell my closest loved ones my wishes.. In case I die. On my facebook I set up a tribute person (my cousin/she's like my sister) in case I passed.. so she could run my facebook etc) - I didn't think I'd make it out alive.
- But I wanted sobriety more than anything. I envied those who had it. I envied those who went from where I was at, and got sober.. and couldn't quite figure out HOW they did it.. But they were a hero in my eyes.
>>These people have come up to me (even while I'm at work) to tell me HOW PROUD THEY ARE OF ME. How they didn't think I'd make it out.. How I'm a total different person & how I am an inspiration & how if I CAN DO IT - ANYONE CAN. etc

>>
Which is why I write about my addiction.. and TRY MY BEST to explain it to others!
Because even if you are not an addict, it's important for you to understand... it's a disease. It's not as easy as to just put down the drug and quit.
Most will relapse.. Maybe 50 times or more. Most won't make it out alive.
It is a mental thing. A MENTAL DISEASE. The drug is just a symptom.
>>We have addictive personalities. And to fix this we require A LOT of therapy and personal reflection and work on OURSELVES.
When we have reached the point of wanting sobriety.. and truly wanting it.. THEN the hardest work comes in!
>>>We have to figure out WHY we're using.
>>>We have to do A LOT of self reflection and WORK ON OURSELVES.
We are ADDICTS. Even if we have quit the drug part.
We literally can and WILL get addicted to anything and everything! - So we have to be careful.
**Shopping. Sex. Relationships. FOOD. Cigarettes. *A different drug to substitute one for another, etc***
The list can go on and on... and on..
>>Which is why we REALLY must look at ourselves and stop ourselves.
>>We have to create limits and stick to them. And therapy is a must for many of us. I signed up and still go at least once a month to see a counselor. I've been seeing a counselor from this program SINCE I got sober 2 1/2 years ago- and I'm not stopping any time soon.
Groups are a very good way to keep MANY people sober (but not all of us). I love doing groups sometimes, but I prefer church, personally.
Why I wrote all of this.. is to help some of you have a better understanding of addiction. Even if you are not an addict.
>>You may know someone who is an addict.. And if you DON'T YET, I'd be VERY Surprised.. But it's still important for you to know this.. because if you don't.. YOU WILL.
Addiction is sweeping the nation.. the world... Every place out there, far & wide. Even in the middle of the jungle.. They're seeing addiction. Imagine that!
It's a disease.. and it's NOT going away any time soon.
So EDUCATION is very important.
So I hope what I wrote (if you read it / or part of it) - helps you to understand.. a little bit more about addiction.
_________________
I am proud of myself. I am growing and learning more and more every single day!
Like I said above, I feel like most days I don't even think about how I'm in recovery. But several times a week I am reminded.. And I feel gratitude immediately. I never want to forget what I went thru. I never want to stop talking about it.. I want to help. I want to help give others knowledge.. and/or inspiration.
& Even if you don't think you're an addict.. You very well could be. Denial is a huge part of it.
>>Prescriptions from your DOCTOR is where it ALL STARTED FOR ALL OF US. (I don't know statistics, but I'm almost positive that OVER 90% of addicts started with a doctor's prescription! Every single person that I met in recovery.. has the SAME STORY)
NOT ONE ADDICT can say that they woke up one day and said, "I want to be a homeless drug addict and live on the street, rob people and beg for change".
Sadly enough... most of them started with an injury or something and a doctor wrote them a prescription.. And because of their brain.. *THEIR BRAIN LOVED IT* & they have some type of addictive personality.. Their brain wanted more. & It ended badly.. for all of us.
Some of us were lucky enough to make it out alive. And only 2% of us who do make it out alive.. will REMAIN sober. I just pray every single day that I am going to remain one of those 2%! May God continue to give me the strength to remain sober.. & on the right path.
