Students Baking 10,000 Cookies for Law Enforcement Officers: Delcastle Technical HS Students Thank Officers for DUI Enforcement

Delaware Governor Jack Markell stopped by to cheer and thank culinary students at Delcastle Technical High School. The students are baking cookies for every law enforcement officer in Delaware as a token of thanks for staffing sobriety checkpoints over the holidays. The students aim to make more than 10,000 cookies by working overnight in a marathon baking session.

Children from surrounding elementary schools are on hand to decorate cookie boxes along with students from other career areas at Delcastle. Dana Herbert, winner of TLC’s “Next Cake Boss”, as well as the Chick-Fil-A cow visited to join in the activities.

This year’s delivery will be dedicated to Sgt. Joseph Szczerba, killed in the line in September.

Josh tries to convince us that he isn't drunk, by walking in a straight line. It is reminiscent of Jeremy Piven's impression of the Port Chester whooping crane.

Volunteer Brandon Freistat, a Fairview Township firefighter, follows Penbrook police officer Calvin Vanderpool's pen during a field sobriety test on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the York County Fire School. Freistat and several other volunteers drank beer and mixed drinks for about four hours before being administered field sobriety tests by central Pennsylvanian police officers who have been in training for three days.

Police officers from York County and other surrounding counties are participating in a three-day class to learn how to administer the standardized field sobriety test to potentially impaired drivers. The session is sponsored by the Newberry Township police department and the Pennsylvania DUI Association. After completing the classroom sessions, participating police officers could then test what they learned on volunteers who had been drinking alcohol in a controlled environment for the past four hours.

on the road to sobriety

The rural Japan is not only frugal and deprivation: education for sobriety produces a high level of spirituality that is reflected in various religious sects such as that of Yamabushi (Æsthetes of the Mountain) which is part of a larger congregation called Shugendo. It 'a kind of esoteric sect, hybrid between the Buddhist and Shinto religious tradition with a vein of shamanism. The sect dates from the late twelfth century and the origins of Shugendo misteriose. The key concept is the belief that certain mountains are sacred, and that the worship of these peaks transfer to the believer special powers. The worship rituals include a series of difficult physical tests conducted in groups - like a sort of pilgrimage - and those who complete the cycle of pilgrimages to various temples reach enlightenment. At beginning the route path jackets (undyed cotton or hemp) were decorated with images of protective deities. For each visited the temple (all located in the Omine mountain range, Central Japan), without a special order, a red die indicating the name of the place of worship.

Note the emergence of common archetypal evidence in many cultures, from pilgrimages Shaman Jhakri people of Tamang (Nepal) to the ancient traditions of Western Christianity through the Neolithic cultures (see example in the history of Mount Bego or Castellermo)
