A couple of horses which won't wander far from the barn with a nip of snow and cold (sub-zero) - not sure the fence is needed but still there in case they go hunting for warmer pastures.

Well, we made it to the top of Craigendarroch (pronounced Craggen-darrock) and were in time for a great sunset ..
With snowstorms taking aim at much of the Midwest and Northeastern United States over the next few days, it seemed like an appropriate time to post this archive shot from a few years ago. The image shows an antique farm implement and was captured on the grounds of The Grove, a National Historic Landmark site in Glenview, Illinois.

Union Pacific rotary snowplow No. 900082 is eastbound approaching a snowbound Sharon Springs, Kansas, on New Year’s day nine years ago. Trains have been stranded there for several days, and this plow operated east from Denver to open up the Kansas Pacific line to Salina. High winds and 32 inches of snow buried the town during the December 29-30 storm. Providing motive power for the rotary train is a pair of GEs, with three support cars trailing the power, along with a backwards-facing EMD SD70M, to be used to pull the outfit westward out of a stuck position, if needed.

Not going anywhere - although 21/2 feet is certainly not a phenomenal amount compared with the rest of the world, for us it is record-breaking. We usually only get around 3-4". So we are waiting for a snowplow to get to us and plow our access road. Until then, I'm very grateful for books and knitting :) It is so beautiful in spite of all the bother!

The last time SW England had a decent snow covering I sadly missed it by being away at University. This week, after 10 years of waiting I finally was able to see it. This is the only time that Porlock Weir has been totally deserted with not even a solitary dog walker and i had it all to myself because of the blizzard - not that I'm complaining! It's been a gruelling week photography wise with the harshest conditions and many locations. This is the first in the series... Wishing all friends and followers a happy week ahead.
