the time of day I usually make my smoothies

Here's my smoothie, made with one smoothie puck, one frozen banana, and some flax milk. Simple as that!

I've been making smoothies for breakfast. Sometimes green ones, sometimes not.

 

And today's was a not green one- and a bit on the indulgent side. Strawberry Shortcake Smoothie.

 

The measurements are approximate- adjust them depending on what you like. You might like thicker (add less water), you might like sweeter (add your choice)

 

1/4-1/3 cup roasted salted cashews

1/4 cup unsweetened coconut

1 cup frozen unsweetened strawberries

approx. 2 cups cold water.

1 slice of pound cake

 

Blend in high speed blender. Enjoy.

- 10 oz frozen mixed berries (Tree of Life, organic)

- 2 (or more!) handfuls organic baby spinach (you won't taste it)

- 1 T unsweetened shredded coconut (Let's Do Organic, organic) : fresh young coconut is great if you have it, though not especially quick

- 1 T chai seeds (Navitas, organic)

- 10 oz liquid (you can use water, 1/2 coconut water, or juice (my dd loves Knudsen's Pineapple Coconut Juice))

 

While this works best in a high powered blender like a VitaMix or a BlendTec any blender that will crush ice will work, though you may want to skip the shredded coconut and sprinkle the chai seeds on top (or not; your mileage may vary).

would've been better if the banana wasn't so ripe. i'm gonna try a different recipe next time..

Fage yogurt -- the thick, creamy strained Greek yogurt -- adds a wonderful creaminess and slight tang to a strawberry banana smoothie. Recipe: one banana, half a dozen or so frozen strawberries (or a couple handfuls of whatever frozen fruit you like), a pinch of sugar, half a cup of Fage, and enough milk to just cover the blender blade. Blend it until it's thick and smooth. Enjoy!

The smoothie is kinda ... separated or something, but still good. :P

Mika has been resisting the morning smoothies lately. She's 3 1/2, if that explains anything. So, today I took the leftover smoothie and put it into popsicle molds. When I proposed a popsicle to her this evening, she gobbled it up and asked for another. I know that a frozen smoothie isn't quite as nutritious as fresh-from-the-blender but I was still happy to "sneak" that one in. This smoothie had banana, kiwi, pear, spinach, berries, yogurt, and flax seeds.

I recently got a blender and I've been going nuts making smoothies and milkshakes. This is my own little recipe.

 

3 punnets strawberries

1.5 cups plain, low fat, organic yoghurt

1 cup Ribena (made from the cordial)

 

It was really thick and delicious!

Beet, apple, celery, cucumber, avocado, toasted flax seeds.
