Snow today. Perfect timing since I got a coat yesterday. It's been twenty years since I've had one of these things. Which means I've spent twenty years layering hoodies and enduring the nagging, "Aren't you cold? You should get a coat. Don't you want a coat?" from others when the temperature dropped.

Lipcolour Unchanging MAC

I teamed up with Smashbox Studios last week to shoot their first installment of what they are calling "Pop-Up" shoots where they provide an all inclusive production team to carry out whatever photo you want. The original idea, which we shot as well and I will post later, was from the Creative Director I collaborated with, Chad Attie. It was based on a drawing from his sketchbook that just had a lonely ice cream truck driver amidst a bunch of empty wrappers. Of course we needed 40 kids to help us eat all the ice cream first so here they are, gladly throwing it directly at me.

one more then, i suppose.

The Postcard

A postcard that was published by Bamforth & Co. Ltd. of Holmfirth, Yorkshire.

The card was posted in Blackpool on Wednesday the 5th. October 1983 to:

Mrs. A. Oakes,

37, Renfrew Street,

Chaddesden,

Derby.

The message on the divided back of the card was as follows:

"Dear Annie,

We are having a nice time.

We are having a morning

in the Ballroom.

It is very windy and was

raining this morning but

it is fine now.

We went to see the lights

last night & then called in

an old-world pub and

enjoyed it.

From Flo & Min".

Blackpool

Blackpool is a seaside resort in Lancashire on the northwest coast of England. The town is by the Irish Sea, between the Ribble and Wyre rivers, and is 27 miles (43 km) north of Liverpool and 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Manchester.

At the 2011 census, Blackpool had a population of 139,720, making it the most populous settlement in Lancashire. It is home to the Blackpool Tower, which when built in 1894 was the tallest building in the British Empire.

Throughout the Medieval and Early Modern period, Blackpool was a coastal hamlet in Lancashire's Amounderness Hundred, and remained as such until the mid-18th. century, when it became fashionable in England to travel to the coast in the summer to improve well-being.

In 1781, visitors attracted to Blackpool's 7-mile (11 km) sandy beach were able to use a new private road, built by Thomas Clifton and Sir Henry Hoghton.

Stagecoaches began running to Blackpool from Manchester in the same year, and from Halifax in 1782. In the early 19th. century, Henry Banks and his son-in-law John Cocker erected new buildings in Blackpool, which increased its population from less than 500 in 1801 to over 2,500 in 1851. St John's Church in Blackpool was consecrated in 1821.

Blackpool rose to prominence as a major centre of tourism in England when a railway was built in the 1840's connecting it to the industrialised regions of northern England. The railway made it much easier and cheaper for visitors to reach Blackpool, triggering an influx of settlers.

By 1881, Blackpool was a booming resort with a population of 14,000 and a promenade complete with piers, fortune-tellers, public houses, trams, donkey rides, fish and chip shops, and theatres.

By 1901, the population of Blackpool was 47,000, by which time its place was cemented as the archetypal British seaside resort. By 1951, the town had grown to 147,000 people.

Shifts in tastes, combined with opportunities for British people to travel overseas, affected Blackpool's status as a leading resort in the late 20th. century. However its urban fabric and economy both remain relatively undiversified and firmly rooted in the tourism sector, and the borough's seafront continues to attract millions of visitors every year.

Blackpool's major attractions and landmarks include the Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Illuminations, Pleasure Beach, Blackpool Zoo, Sandcastle Water Park, the Winter Gardens and Blackpool Tramway, which is the UK's only surviving first-generation tramway.

The Dhilwan Bus Massacre

So what else happened on the day that Flo and Min posted the card?

Well, the 5th. October 1983 marked the date of the Dhilwan Bus massacre. This was a massacre of 6 Hindus by pro-Khalistan Sikh anti-Government militants.

The bus was travelling from Dhilwan in Kapurthala district to Jalandhar when it was attacked by Sikh militants. Six Hindu passengers were shot dead in Dhilwan in the northern state of Punjab, India.

Due to the deteriorating law and order situation in the Punjab, the Congress-led State government was dismissed and President's rule was imposed on the evening following the massacre.

Nicky Hilton Rothschild

The day also marked the birth of Nicky Hilton Rothschild, who is currently (2021) 37 years of age.

Born Nicholai Olivia Hilton, she is an American businesswoman, socialite, model and fashion designer. She is a member of the Hilton family by birth, and a member of the Rothschild family through her marriage to James Rothschild, a grandson of Victor Rothschild, 3rd Baron Rothschild, in 2015.

Nicky Hilton - The Early Years

Hilton was born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles. She is the younger daughter of Richard Hilton, a hotel heir of the Hilton family who works as a businessman in real estate, and of Kathy Hilton (née Avanzino), a former actress.

Nicky is the second of four children: she has an older sister, Paris Hilton (born 1981), and two younger brothers, Barron Hilton II (born 1989) and Conrad Hilton III (born 1994).

Nicky Hilton was raised Roman Catholic. She has Norwegian, German, Italian, English, Irish, and Scottish ancestry. Hilton graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart, an all-girls Catholic school on the Upper East Side, in 2001.

She took courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology and The New School for Design, but does not have a degree.

Nicky Hilton's Career

In 2004, Hilton launched her own clothing line. She also designed a line of handbags for Japanese company Samantha Thavasa. In 2007, she started her second line, Nicholai, at a higher price point. Nicholai held its fashion show for the spring/summer 2008 season in New York City during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

In 2014, Nicky launched a 10-piece collection with eLuxe. She designed each piece as a reflection of her personal style, and named all products after the women in her family, who are said to embody the style of each piece.

In 2010, Hilton launched a line of jewellery. The pieces are fashion jewellery in an Art Deco style, averaging around $200 per piece. In 2015, she launched a capsule collection of handbags as part of a collaboration with Linea Pelle. Hilton said she was approached by Linea Pelle:

"I was asked to make a capsule collection,

and I really wanted to have it be classic.

I didn't want to make these super-trendy

bags that would be out of style next season."

In August 2017, Nicky announced her collaboration with Tolani for a Mommy and Me capsule collection. The collection launched in stores in spring 2018. In 2019 Hilton launched a second collection with Tolani inspired by her travels.

In February 2019, Hilton announced her first footwear collection in partnership with French Sole. The line, known as Nicky Hilton x French Sole, officially launched in September 2019.

Nicky Hilton's Modelling Career

In 2005, Hilton was the face of Australian underwear line Antz Pantz alongside Kimberly Stewart. Stewart remains contracted, but Hilton has been replaced by Australian model Megan Maitland. Around this time, Hilton modeled for the cover of Lucire for its New Zealand and Romanian editions.

Nicky Hilton's Other Ventures

In 2006, Nicky entered into a partnership to open two Nicky O Hotels, the first in Miami and the second in Chicago. That same year, Hilton sued her partner in Federal Court in Los Angeles for damages, and to seek an injunction against his use of the name. On the 12th. February 2007, Nicky was sued for breach of contract by her partners.

In 2014, Nicky Hilton published her first book, '365 Style', published by Harlequin, a subsidiary of HarperCollins.

In 2015, Hilton collaborated with Smashbox, the cosmetic brand owned by Estée Lauder, to create a cosmetic line consisting of three limited-edition cat-inspired makeup kits (one for each of her favorite cities: NYC, LA and London).

Philanthropy

Nicky has supported a range of charitable organisations, including Starlight Children's Foundation, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Race to Erase MS and Union Rescue Mission.

Nicky Hilton's Personal Life

At 2:30 a.m. on the 15th. August 2004, Hilton married childhood friend and businessman Todd Meister at the Vegas Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The marriage was annulled less than three months later, with Hilton and Meister explaining they traveled apart often and had married "on a whim".

In 2011, Hilton began dating financier James Rothschild (born 1985), a member of the Rothschild banking family and only son of Amschel Rothschild, after being introduced at James Stunt and Petra Ecclestone's wedding.

On the 12th. August 2014, while on vacation at Lake Como in Italy, Hilton became engaged to Rothschild.

On the 10th. July 2015, the couple married at The Orangery in Kensington Palace Gardens in London. Nicky wore a $77,000 Valentino Haute Couture gown. Her sister, Paris, served as maid of honor.

The couple honeymooned in Botswana. They have two daughters: Lily Grace Victoria Rothschild (born July 2016), and Theodora "Teddy" Marilyn Rothschild (born December 2017).

Culture Club

Also on the 5th. October 1983, the Number One hit record in the UK was 'Karma Chameleon' by Culture Club.

Might as well do one of my cosmetic bag! Participating in the What's In Your Bag? group :)

Just so you know... what you see is not even half of the make up I own. I have a larger bag full of probably over 80 jars filled with MAC pigments, 2 bronzers, unused brushes, and other powders.

Nowadays, I learn to buy only the things I need.

Got my makeup done at Smashbox the other day by the fabulously talented Olivia Wojcik. This was a few hours later (and obviously processed to hell and back), so it doesn't really do her work justice, but it was great. Now I just need to save up so I can actually buy the products she used!
