Minister Bernier visited six schools in Dawson Creek: Pouce Coupe Elementary, Tremblay Elementary, Ecole Frank Ross, Parkland Elementary, Peace View Elementary and South Peace Elementary.
At Pouce Coupe, the Minister Bernier played rhyming bingo with a kindergarten and grade 1 class and joined a grade 5, 6,7 class for a discussion on government and the voting process.
At Tremblay Elementary, students showed the Minister how their guided reading program works using a Smartboard. Leadership students at Ecole Frank Ross toured the Minister through their school.
The Minister was busy at Parkland Elementary, participating in Literacy Centres, a social studies class and an art class. Peace View Elementary showcased their mathematics skills and South Peace Elementary facilitated a writing workshop.
Twenty-five years ago, Mike Bernier toured the Province with his rock band “Final Cut.” Now, as Education Minister, he’s back on tour visiting schools and seeing BC’s new curriculum in action and the innovative learning happening in classrooms. He’s connecting directly with teachers, students, parents, educators and administrators – covering every region of the province. Bernier’s Back on Tour!
There was some pretty rough weather while we were in classes today. After deciding to take a photo with my umbrella, I learned that it's not easy to hold a QuikPod and an umbrella. I realized that I was looking over my glasses as the camera's shutter snapped, but I was ready to leave school and enjoy my weekend.
I had some good news today. The technology guy came to my room and looked at my SMARTBoard. The bulb is not blown. He just had to reset the projector, and it is now working again. Yay! I'm so happy.
On the other hand, I learned that I'll be teaching math instead of social studies and science during the days before the state test. Anybody know how to find the area of a circle and a triangle? :P

I ran across this hack for Wii remotes today that requires a Wii remote (duh) and about $8 worth of stuff from Radio Shack.
Once made, you can turn basically ANY surface into a "SmartBoard".
