Pearl was sitting on my lap when I reached over her, pointed the camera back at us and made a few exposures. Oh yes, this miniature pup needs a haircut, but isn’t she cute, isn’t she?

My wife's pride and joy. The name above (title) is the actual name on his AKC registration. Yes, she spelled Louie wrong, but you go ahead and try to argue with her about that. ; )

The "D" in his name stands for "Derkie" which is a chihuahua we had to put down a couple years ago... Derkie was my wife's baby, who we lost when he was 16 years old about 2 years ago. In fact she owned his mother, Cricket, as a child. Lewie is an exact replica of Derkie, only smaller... His "Mini Me", if you will. Only half of derkie's size (3 pounds), Personality is an exact match and all.

My wife has been bugging me for a while to get "cute" pictures of him, but the little devil never stays still. So one day recently, while I was at Hobby Lobby, I saw these baskets and a light bulb went off over my head. I rigged a little studio set-up and this is one of several images that she liked.

BTW, yes I do have a lot of pets (I used to have many more), but I wouldn't trade them for the world. All of them are deeply loved and well cared for. (Anybody who knows me personally can testify).

Just for fun, I will let you know how I set up my fake studio... First and most important is my 580 EX II flash. I used a remote trigger to set it off, off camera. I also used a 20x30 piece of white foam core, which I monted on 2 of the cheap Home Depot clamps (so that it stands upright) to the right of the setup to bounce and diffuse the light. I used a 40x60 black foamcore for the background and a stretched, black blanket on the floor. The black Foam core was angled away from the direction of the light for maximum darkness. The camera (5D MK II, though I don't think it matters) was tripod mounted and I used my Sigma 100-300mm F/4 from about 15 feet away at F/8 and at about as wide as it can go. That's pretty much it... Most of the processing was done in ACR. All I did was darken the blacks even more and increase the clarity. Hopefully all that makes sense.
