Waterfront, Portland, OR.

I just wanted to post this one picture quickly to let you all know that Spring has come to Portland! What a fabulous show. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom. I never thought that photographing cherry blossoms at night would be something interesting. When I took these pictures last night, they were rather yellow. I tried at first adjusting the white balance while shooting but that did not help much. I was able to find a perfect white balance in Adobe Camera Raw that made this final image just the way I wanted it. This place was heavily illuminated by sodium vapor lamps, so when I corrected for the yellow light, darker areas of the image turned metallic blue. I guess I can’t call this as a true blue hour photograph. Supposedly, cities these days are using broad spectrum sodium lamps to avoid excessive (yellow) light pollution! I also liked the light trail left behind by a passing bicycle. Cherry blossoms around the Portland waterfront have become extremely popular these days. At night, however, this area in particular has also become tough to manage. When we were there, we needed to be aware of the surroundings and it was not a comforting feeling.

Dreamland Beach is a beach located on the Bukit peninsula, on the island of Bali, Indonesia. The beach provides basic accommodation and cafes for surfers and day-trippers. One of the most beautiful beaches on the island, it is also renowned for its dangerous shorebreak.

It is the site of the failed Pecatu Graha development, planned by Tommy Suharto, the corrupt youngest son of the former president Suharto. As of 2008 this is an active building site with all the previous Warongs having been levelled for a hotel complex.

Dreamland. Formerly a very beautiful beach which has been ruined by the adjacent Pecatu Graha Indah & New Kuta development, Sadly it has turned into Nightmare-land. There are still excellent surfing conditions, especially for intermediate surfers on days when other breaks are too big to surf. The break goes right left, is not too shallow and has decent shape. If you do visit this beach, try to imagine how glorious it was before the bulldozers moved in. The entrance road to Pecatu Graha Indah is about 2 km southwest of Ungasan on Jl Uluwatu, and is impossible to miss adorned as it by huge statues and truly massive, intrusive billboards.

Seruni Beach - Indonesia

It was a cold and windy day. lol With the windchill below freezing, the railings on the pier were covered with ice. Air temp was actually around 3 degrees Celsius. (38ish F) Actually, the only thing cold was my fingers. I had fingerless wool gloves from Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC). On top of my left (no-shooting) hand, I also had a warm, fleece clove, but, the wind was from the bowels of the dark, cold, well..., you know. I took a lot of shots at different speeds, trying to get something interesting. If any of you saw that huge splashing wave that went viral recently, it was taken here, though, off to the right, I believe. Woulda been nice to get something like that, but, my little effort will have to suffice for you poor people who are my contacts.
