Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊
This is a story about friendship.
The sloth, Winslow, stayed in the tree almost his whole life. He rarely smiled. He had no friends.
One day, a woodpecker came and stopped on the tree. Winslow felt quite excited when he saw her. He had never seen a bird’s beak peck as fast as hers. Winslow longed to be able to talk to her, but it never happened. Because whenever he climbed to where she was, she flew away. Winslow was a sloth, and he moved very very slowly. However, he still kept trying to get to close to her, even if he missed it, he didn’t give up.
Long days passed, on a super lucky day, the woodpecker stopped near Winslow! He plucked up the courage to say, “Hi, my name is Winslow.” The woodpecker gave him a sweet smile. Then Winslow knew her name was Riri. They became good friends.
Every time, Riri came, she would share interesting news from around the world with him. After all, Winslow, the sloth, likes to smile, and feels very happy every day!
Brown throated 3-toed sloths (Bradypus variegatus), the species most typically found in Costa Rica. Our sloth mom was surprisingly active and while we watch, she moved about the tree and even came lower down where we could more easily see her sweet baby.

An interesting thing a sloths:
Because they are so harry and slow moving they are essentially a slow moving self contained ecosystem. They provide a home to a number of critters.
At least I found it interesting.
As always, thanks for stopping by.
Have a great day, and if you get the chance, maybe add something towards helping someone else do the same.
I will try as well.

Yesterday was my least favorite of the 7 deadly sins, today is my favorite.....
I love naps. I just love relaxing and not doing anything, so I would have to say I am a big fan of sloth. Probably a bigger fan that I would like to admit.
A sloth bear looking for bugs in this rotten log. This photo was taken in Ranthambhore National Park in India!

Joshua turned 8 years old this week. His favorite present
appears to be this stuffed sloth from his sister. He's been
carrying it around everywhere. And I loved this smiling,
personality-capturing portrait of him and the sloth.

This was the second sloth bear we saw on our trip to Ranthambhore National Park in India! The sloth bears were out looking for termites which makes sightings of them easier this time of year!
The excitement generated by the call of 'Sloth has moved was nothing like the excitement of 'Sloth and baby!' This was such a thrill! We were shooting way up in the tree, where we got a few minutes to get clear shots, then she moved deeper into the canopy where it became impossible to photograph them again.
Sloths are not kept in captive or fenced in, they live in the tallest trees and freely move round the canopy. They cant be attracted by food as they only eat the leaves on certain trees. They need primary rainforest to survive. Costa Rica underwent a huge de-forestation in the 1960s for agriculture. The presnt Costa Rica government is working hard to slow that down. Sloths only have babies every 3 years and the mortality rate of their young is apparently, 60%.

Although the primary target was Tigers, we were also really hopeful that we might see a Sloth Bear and whilst we did not get a good photo opportunity we did at least see two bears (which was a significant improvement on our trip to Svalbard last year). Both were carrying cubs on their backs - in this case a single cub. It was not possible to get a clear view of the mother but I did manage this record shot of the little cub.
