Day 1 from Shushartie Bay to Skinner Creek is a soul crushing slog through bogs and secondary forest via a river of mud and ankle busting roots. These pictures do not do it justice. Photo taken in Cape Scott Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada.

With the distant hills and Llandudno outskirts in the background, S355 PGA (365) tears up the Great Orme with the 13:26 Llandudno Hospital - Summit working.

After a grinding slog through the forest, we finally see good fishing ahead. Next time we’ll know to stick to the main trail!

My lens was dustier than I realized, as is painfully obvious if you look at the mountain just below the sun.

You can see the long industrial slog into Porrinho below. I don't know where these goats came from. Incidently, the industrial slog really isn't that bad...coming up past Porrinho, you get to walk on a shoulder-less freeway...there is also a less well-marked meandering road to the left of the freeway (cross freeway when you first get to it, cross railroad tracks, pass lumber yard and when you get to the T-junction where the guidebook advises to go back to freeway, turn to the left instead, and follow the main road, eventually, you will see yellow arrows, though the first one you see has an X thru it, which is confusing. Ignore it.) I think it's probably longer, but it does eventually lead into Mos. I avoided the freeway, except for the first 20 meters or so, and to run across it to follow the train tracks...this is about a couple of kms once you leave the center of Porrinho, the Camino leads to the right first, up a hill, past large boulders, and then turns left, steeply downhill to meet with the freeway.) There is a LOT of highway, freeway, road walking on the Camino Portuguese (at least between Porto and Santiago), where you are walking with traffic. Not a lot of dedicated pathway for walkers, especially in Portugal, so stay alert. (The first day out of Porto is definitely the worst, especially if you don't walk the alternative ocean route north.)

You can see Fred along the shore, enjoying a well-earned cast, while Poco is waiting on the snow for me to throw sticks for him.

What is this, BC? I feel like I've earned a non-logging road style approach, but hey what can you do? The mud on the road was clayey, and stuck in my boots like glue.

After slogging through the cave and river, we came upon these large chambers filled with Mayan relics. This large area was filled with pottery, fire pits, and human remains used in ceremonies to pray for rain. There was quite a lot of moisture in the air.

A piper slogs it out on the front steps of the Balmoral Hotel. He had competition from some teenage pipers over the road.

Was on my way down from Slogen, a very beautiful mountain in Sunnmøre, Norway, when I shot this view.

Rhiannon. GAH. Each 16-row repeat of the main celtic cable is taking me four Buffys. I have 9 to go, I think, before I hit the toe decreases. You do the math.

Having slogged up to Burn Butts on the bike I saw these two ladies sitting on their walking horses, talking 19 to the dozen. Is that exercise or a moving couch potato?
