This photo was taken on the fall ride on the ski lift at Calabogie Peaks in Ontario.
Ski runs in the summer give the striped effect to the landscape, with dark bands of trees adjacent to green grassy areas, stripped of trees.
This is a view of Breckenridge Ski Resort, taken from Cucumber Gulch Nature Reserve. The massive resort, spread over five peaks boasts 155 ski runs, the longest at 3.5 miles (5.6km). The base elevation of the town of Breckenridge is 9600 ft (2926m), and the highest elevation is 12988ft (3962m).
Weather conditions change rapidly in the mountains, as shown in this picture and the previous picture (also shown in the first comment), taken about 20 minutes apart.
Small patches of snow still remain in the mountains in September.
a man runs across the crest of a hill. his body is a silhouette of motion.
nearby, a steel tower stands. it is silent. it waits for winter and its purpose.
one is a brief, human effort. the other is a permanent, metal fact.
both are ways to conquer a mountain. one with lungs, the other with electricity.
the mountain itself does not notice the difference. it is only a mountain.
Rich Border, super secret agent of S.I.M.P.L.E. (Space Invaders Monitoring and Protective League Entente) back with yet more proof that aliens are among us. Another one of these alien craft has landed above Whistler Village in British Columbia. Most of you will remember, (the rest of you have had it blocked from your memories so please report to your local SIMPLE CENTER to have our simple Doctors work on you) , that I brought you a similar find from atop Mount Baker, Washington. Both of roughly the same configuration, both parked at high elevation, this cannot be a coincidence! Obviously these aliens breath thinner air and prefer colder temperatures, there can be no other explanation!
Fun fact. Excalibur here was erected in 1994, tower four fell down December 16th, 2008. To its credit, none of the 43 people riding at the time were seriously injured, those babies stayed on the cable that was taught enough to keep them (mostly) from touching ground. Of course, there were lawsuits because, you know, no one wants to crap their pants in public.
pss: this was lit almost entirely by flashlight, I was hoping for a more dramatic effect, however it looks like I didn't miss a single spot. :)

Yesterday was a busy day at Baker. The line was much longer before that run, but thankfully it decreased.

I took this view from near the Bärenland in Arosa. The weather was gorgeous and lots of people were skiing!

If you're ever in East Tennessee, visiting Gatlinburg (and nearby Pigeon Forge) is just something you have to do. Be prepared for hot summers and relentless crowds, but there's a lot to do and see here on the edge of the Smokies - from rides to restaurants to moonshine tasting.
Skilift : Luanes World @ Le Monde Perdu - Winter 2024
A white winter blanket has settled over Luanes World, a Nordic-inspired haven with charming red houses by a frozen lake. Explore the illuminated Christmas market in the village, then take a chairlift to a cozy mountain bar. Ski or sledge through snowy forests and down to the rocky shore to uncover a stunning ice cave with a museum of ice statues. On the island’s other side, visit a quaint fishing hamlet with a rugged, captivating atmosphere. Wonders await—so wander, explore, and enjoy!
We look forward to seeing you here :)
