Dino Dig; Batawa Ski Hill; Batawa, Quinte West, Ontario.

- www.kevin-palmer.com - Last Saturday I snowshoed to the top of Antelope Butte, which is an abandoned ski hill. It is being restored and will likely open next winter. This is the view from the top of the lift, looking down the mountain. Climbing 1,000 feet to the top wasn't easy with the snow 5 feet deep.

I thought this sign was kinda cool so I took a pic.

Took a drive to look at the sites and take pictures. What a great day! That’s Waterville in the background.

Shot with Nikon 18-140mm

This is an 11 image pano stitched together for one incredibly large file. The saved jpeg is 35MB which is ridiculous to post so here's the resized version! Still lots of detail. This shot was taken from the top a run named "Meet the Neighbors", from there, you drop into a bowl and enjoy beautiful snow! You can see the top of the Ripper chair in the distance and the surrounding mountains. Gorgeous views all around! Enjoy!

Two inches on the fluffy white stuff fell at our house yesterday! Most of it has melted away in the city but the local mountains will be opening early this year!

It's nice to see the stars. I miss them when the weather is bad.

Gotta love B&W..even at 9pm..

Heading up the gondola this morning, the scene was spectacular. The sun peeking through the clouds and casting such a beautiful light with the trees. Hard to beat!

“The Movement” is youth conference that focuses on the snowboard culture and reaching it with a message of a God who is relevant in a way that cant be denied!

Over the three days you'll get to hear five great bands and listen to solid guest speakers, on top of getting to rip up Sunpeaks! We can't forget to mention getting tossed thousands in sponsor give-aways, and a chance to chill with the bands and everyone else involved with in making The Movement go down.

The Movement doesn’t just end when the youth go home. A huge amount of the profits made from the weekend go to local and worldwide programs to help the needy and abused. It's just one way to keep The Movement that Jesus started 2010 years ago going in a way that impacts lives and changes them forever!

Warren and I went up to Big White Ski Resort for New Years. We had planned on night skiing, however as Warren went to go buy tickets we found out there was no night skiing on New Years Eve. So we were 9 hours early for the midnight fireworks. There was plenty of activities going on, and we found a great band playing at Happy Valley lodge. I think we both had a pretty great time considering our skiing plans hadn't worked out.

Vancouver is a very picturesque town. Here are some locations for great vistas of the city and surroundings.

1, Hollyburn, located on the skihill access road, is located in West Vancouver and offers a sweeping view of Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, English Bay, Point Grey, Stanley Park, Vancouver, and Mount Baker in the distance. The view from the nearby Salmon House on the Hill is similar, and you can get an exquisite west coast dinner too.

2. Propect Point is in Stanley Park and offers views of North and West Vancouver, the Lions Gate Bridge, and English Bay. There is a small cafe.

3. Coal Harbour has a long seawall on both sides of the inlet. The view from Stanley Park allows nice skyline photos. The 10km walk around the seawalk is a photographers dream.

4. Spanish Banks is a large long public beach in Point Grey with views of the skyline, English Bay, freighters awaiting unloading and the southern Gulf Islands.

5. Burnaby Heights is a residential area located just east of the Transcanada Highway (#1) just south of the Second Narrows Bridge. The home have wonderful midcentury architecture and there are good views of the skyline and the bridge.

6. Granville Island is a public market area with food and artistis venues, plays and nightllife. THere are nice vistas of the Burrand and Granville Street Bridges and Yaletown skyline across False Creek Inlet.

7. Queen Elizabeth Park is the highest point in Vancouver proper -- an extinct volcano that hosts wonderful gardens, a conservatory, and views of downtown and the north shore mountains.

8. Granville Street Bridge can be a bit noisy but offers nice views of Granville Island, the Fairview Slopes, and the downtown west end. If you have to choose, the west sidewalk is better for photos.

See my two other photo lookout montages that are more regional. The individual photos are available in my photostream. Most of the photos date from 2008 to 2010, most with my Nikon D80, with one photo from the 1980s on Fujichrome.

We took the kids tubing at Mt. Norquay. After a couple of hours of relatively good weather the snow has caught up with us... Here is a few shots from there..

Remnants of the tow-bars unit of the former Carlington Hill ski hill in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Located in Carlington Park, Internet sources vary as to its years of operation. Some sites state that it ceased functioning as a ski hill during the 1970s, whereas other sites state that it operated from 1965 to 1990.

This hill is extremely popular with kids sliding down on toboggans, crazy carpets and the like.

The ski hill was formerly known as the Anne Heggtviet Hill, a local resident and alpine ski racer, who was an Olympic gold medalist and double world champion in 1960.

Trees beside a ski run

The first day of spring break and we headed for the hills. It was a bluebird day and as the temp warmed to plus 3 the snow softened and made for "spring skiing" conditions. On the way up talked about this possibly being the last day as the currant Pandemic is resulting in closures of every social gathering place. As we drove home we found out that Big White was shutting down for the remainder of the season due to the coronavirus. I'm glad we had this day. Hope everyone is keeping safe.
