I've been a bit unproductive drawing/painting wise of late. I started working on a modest new 'listening to the qin ' painting and, feeling my way back in, unusually for me, I made quite a few preparatory sketches. First four, top, L to R: Mr Red, Mr Red, Mr Green, Mr Red, then everything else the blue servant (?) boy. // each conté crayon on A5 paper
I have posted these desperate sketches separately years ago when I was doing the matriculation course as a 'mature age' student in 2006. Someone suggested to make it into a triptych. Alas, at that time I was incapable of making triptychs in photoshop and had other pressing matters on my mind - such as trying to find an essay.
Now, since I am learning to sketch and am managing to make triptychs in PS, I decided to resurrect the images and put them as a triptych into my new Sketching album :)
I think I shall never forget this evening.
The deadline was tomorrow. The relief to eventually find the essay was enormous! :) Fortunately, we have different bins for recyclable materials and there was mainly paper stuff in this bin.
And yes, the essay was in the bin.
And the bin collection was the following day, the day the essay was due.
Anybody who has been in that situation knows the sinking feeling, the despair, the physical pain in the head and in the stomach, especially when you know that this particular essay was the very best essay you have ever written! :)
This is one of my favourite buildings in Cambridge. The ground floor, with the door at river level is now a bike store, a college master has the room with the church-like bay window, the rest is student accomodation.
Sketching Stuff Challenge: Build a Snowman.
In the second Sketching Stuff Challenge for January, Charlie shows us how to draw and paint a snowman!
I changed my drawing a bit just so I wasn’t copying Charlie’s work exactly, but I followed the steps for coloring it in.

This is my Lomography ActionSampler, Cameron.
I got Cameron while travelling the US, from a camera shop in Utah. He takes four shots to one frame of film, in the time of one second. He's fun, spontaneous, simple and colourful. He loves capturing movement. I usually don't enjoy photographing moving subjects, but Cameron has brought me out of my comfort zone of film photography.
The sketching setting was so good we both forgot about the crowd and noises. SUSHI GALA restaurant owner even brought out a beer. The visitors were all very supportive and Rachel cranked out an excellent sketch. To pay back our respect, we decided to have lunch right here. Ramen, sashimi and curry ... but no more beer. I was getting tipsy!
