I am so psyched! I went to see the Urban Sketchers exhibit at the Ackland Museum Store, and got to see work by Liz Steel, Cathy (Kate) Johnson, Virginia Hein, Sharon Frost, Laura Frankstone and lots more! So cool to see everyone's work in person -- the real thing is always more vibrant than what we see on the screen, no matter how good our scans. The exhibit looks really good -- and I live so close, I get to go back. Any time I want. Until October 6! I started by sketching the panel that a visitor was looking at -- grabbed her quick before she moved on. Caroline Johnson's sketch number two had a red "sold" dot! Congratulations, Caroline!
Then I looked at Liz's work - the first of my contacts I spotted. I was so-o-o pleased! Took a few photos, looked quickly at everyone's work (all wonderful!!) and started a quick sketch of the panel that features Liz's work smack dab in the center. Then it was closing time.
I must confess to feeling really intimidated about sketching other people's work. It felt funny to be sketching someone else's art, and also I knew I could never do any of it justice. But I knew I couldn't just put blank rectangles on those walls either. (Sorry, did have to leave three.) I will be going back -- though likely not to sketch. I just want to drink in everyone's art.
The exhibit fasteners are in two parts - magnetic, so they leave no holes. One part is pounded into the wall or panel, the page is put in place, and a magnet goes on top to hold it firmly. Definitely a wonderful invention for hanging art.
i'm making a new layer for each separate figure, and once my composition/canvas size is to my liking, i will replace my red lines and go into details (1 hour)
Schnell skizzieren bevor das Eis schmlizt! (Pilot custom 74, fine nib, mit wasserfester Noodler's ink schwarz + Aquarellfarben in moleskine ArtPlus, A6, 165 g/m²)
More plane doodles. These are drawn on post-it notes! I've been carrying these around in my wallet for over a week now and I thought I'd get them out before they get too dog-eared or I accidentally offer them to someone as payment!
Visiting a friend in Treffort for a week in freezing weather.
Sketches with fingers numb with cold, sometimes drawn with thick gloves ....
Day 2: very old alley in the upper part of the village, on the right, the houses are tiny, and the street is made of grass. Getting colder and colder
Drawing makes for the appearance of a face of a woman the inside of which we see as well as sound outside!

♥ Thank you for your time ! :)
Today, I tried one of my layouts, and then ended up doing a second page as well... I think that one sketch (plus maybe a smaller detail sketch) is going to work better and allow me to write more text (something that is SO important to me in my sketchbook) ... After these two spreads, I am feeling close to being in the groove with this sketchbook now. (I think that I will just get the hang of it when I finish it... I think the next one will be the BIG A4 size watercolour moleskine!)
BTW Saturday’s sketches don’t look so bad now(now that the memory of the frustration that was occurring in my palette has faded), but I am not sure I could be bothered to scan them...I have adjusted my minimal palette though (and am happy with it!) ...more to come later!
After a long time I made a sketch today of my son, sleeping. It was a real joy watching and drawing him!

This was drawn in-situ leaning against a bollard, it took about an hour and was a rather complex set of marks trying to capture the fall and the perspective of the buildings on the hill.
Quick sketch of Desert4wd's black & white art work (somehow the computer added the sepia like tones), just for fun and possible mental 'juice stirring'. www.flickr.com/photos/desert4wd/23961731513/in/contacts/
