Haven't put up anything of my own work in a while. Here's some sketchbook work as a little taster to the work i'm exhibiting in the 'Hinterland Exhibition' at Centrespace, Bristol this friday.
hello world, meet Jyde.
after lots of thinking, planning, sketching etc. i have finally started to give birth to the superheroes/villains that i have created in my head. this is just his first draft, i'm still not 100% on what his colouring is going to be like. i do know what his body is going to be like but i also haven't drawn it yet, and i think his hair is going to be blue.
i don't know whether i am going to use paints or felts, but i do know that i am going to practice for a few days before i start. painting has never been my forte.
he is primarily based around a recurring nightmare i had as a child until about the age of seven. whenever i closed my eyes at night to go to sleep, i could hear him walking up stairs, getting louder and louder. i never had much of an idea of what he looked like except it was clown-like.
i don't know what his villainous tragic flaw is going to be, but i think it's going to be something around when he has too much fun, he gets too excited, and that excitement quickly turns into sadism. in my head he's slightly retarded and has a terrifying giggle.
i feel weird posting this on flickr, possibly because i have dedicated my whole flickr to developing as a photographer and now i am switching media.
i don't know what it is, i just don't feel like photography is my calling anymore. i love to do it, and i will continue posting, but i've been getting incredibly frustrated lately when shooting. like i want to push my hands through the lens and move everything around how i want it.
Evening sketch : a reader ! with a real book. A rare bird nowadays. The art café, Place Prudhon. Very cleverly, the young hackberry tree is protected by wooden posts, topped with small pieces of iron gleaming in the sunlight. It is graphical and useful. A rarely paid attention to trees.
Visiting my daughter who just bought a beautiful little house (1897) with a garden in Barbezieux. View of the church (XII- XV century) from the street leading to the center. And first work in one of the rooms : taking off the tapestry. My daughter is as beautiful and slim as a gazelle, nothing to do with my result ;)
Digital sketch of Sharon Stone for a Caricaturama challenge over on Facebook. It needs some cleaning up, but I just plain ran out of time.

Students are sketching drawings of aquatic fauna. Older children at this point were looking through microscopes at plant matter and microbes.

Sketches by Boz, escenas de la vida de Londres (por Charles Dickens)
Brief: design a film poster for one of the five films showing at the film festival taking place at a local university. I chose the film Control.
Preliminary sketch to work out the final design of the poster. It's taken from a screenshot showing Sam Riley portraying Ian Curtis at the mic. The angel wing was inspired by the street artist, Eelus.
Gouache on cartridge paper; this was my first time using gouache. The outline of the silhoutte was traced from a printout of the screenshot and the angel wing was added on afterwards. All detail in the wing and the shading was all done by freehand. I'm very pleased with how it came out, particularly the texture in the wing.
Scanned in.
Sketching in my car parked near Bush Park. My philosophy is to sketch whatever Is in front of me while waiting. What caught my eye was that there were still some yellow leaves left on the birch trees downtown.
Strathmore Series 400 Sketch paper 5.5x8.5 inches (14x21.6 cm), Sailor Fude fountain pen with Koh-i- Noor Fount India ink, Pentel Aquash Light Black brush pen, Lucas watercolor, and Derwent 2 round waterbrush.
Quick sketch of an alley in Siena 1994. Acrylics on canvas unframed. Not one of my better paintings. I have been looking forward retrospectively and this is for Terry Kearney as I know he has a thing about Allies. :-)
