Like a roarin’ postcard from the fifties – that’s the sound of the HELLABAMA HONKY TONKS. Three voices, an overdriven sixstring, a big bad black doghouse bass and a pumping and swinging set of drums – that’ s what is called High Octane Hillbilly Rock’n Roll at its best, a patchwork of rough Rockabilly, fast Country and a little bit of Swing performed by Goldi Grasshopper, Crazyeye and Mr. Madsn. So put your cat clothes on, you rockin’ cats and enjoy the HELLABAMA HONKY TONKS!

Die HELLABAMA HONKY TONKS – High Octane Hillbilly Rock’n Roll at its best!

Jimbo and the Soupbones are a local band from near Pittsburgh, PA that plays folk-funk and everything in between. A super nice guy and a big persona, Jimbo Jackson leads the group and also does some acoustic work. His web page has some sample tunes and if you get a chance to see him play I would recommend going. He played a set for us this saturday that included Prince covers, original work and Bill Withers. his original song Incredible...is just that.

Tony MacAlpine

I am hammered in this picture.

I went to Rumba Cafe to see Tony MacAlpine. His opening acts were Hephystus and Lonero. Bill Lonero is on SixString and I got to meet him after the show. He is an AMAZING player and his one guitarist Nasser Abdalla is a total ham on stage like me! I embarrassed myself talking to the guys in Hephystus, Bill Lonero, and people I knew there.

I was so drunk I couldn't drive home so Julie and Shay came and got me and my car. It was bad. I might be done drinking for a while...

Earlier today I took the Jetta to Hatfield to get rear brakes and have the ignition switch replaced. It took quite a while but the key easily turns off the car now!

I also drive Julie's cousin Amy home from work again today.

Oh, How I wish I could play the guitar...

It makes you crazy. It makes you sane.

Doesn't it? I don't think I can write something about music. Its such a thing.

Sadly, I did not get to see the pillows perform over the past weekend. The lines to attend made it impossible given the time I arrived.

On the plus side, I did manage to get my guitar signed the next day- it is now imbued with magical Japanese rock powers!

Restringing

I am restringing my 2013 Gibson Les Paul Signature "T" and once again checking the intonation. This guitar just doesn't seem to stay in tune and when it is "in tune" it sure doesn't sound like it is in tune. Very frustrating. The SixString community is suggesting the nut might be the culprit. Either it is cut wrong or binding. I'm thinking of trying graphite in the nut slots or something called "Nut Sauce" that I think they make...

Julie wasn't feeling well so I stayed home with her. I took her to the Urgent Care at Giant Eagle (since they take our insurance) then we ran errands before meeting Mother Mary and Shay at Northstar Cafe for lunch. It was a Mother's Day lunch for Mother Mary and I paid for everyone. After lunch, Julie had a consultation appointment with an acupuncturist.

Kinetic: Relating to, caused by, or producing motion.

These are called “Kinetic” photographs because there is motion, energy, and movement involved, specifically my and the camera’s movements.

I choose a light source and/or subject, set my camera for a long exposure (typically around 4 seconds), focus on my subject and push the shutter button. When the shutter opens I move the camera around with my hands...large, sweeping, dramatic movements. And then I will literally throw the camera several feet up into the air, most times imparting a spinning or whirling motion to it as I hurl it upward. I may throw the camera several times and also utilize hand-held motion several times in one photo. None of these are Photoshopped, layered, or a composite photo...what you see occurs in one shot, one take.

Aren’t I afraid that I will drop and break my camera? For regular followers of my photostream and this series you will know that I have already done so. This little camera has been dropped many times, and broken once when dropped on concrete outside. It still functions...not so well for regular photographs, but superbly for more kinetic work.

Albeit supremely risky this is one of my favorite ways to produce abstract photographs.
