On November 16, 2011, a new and improved Clark Field turf and track reopened following a $4 million renovation project made possible through $3 million in private gifts and $1 million from Recreational Sports. The newly renovated facility has been renamed the Caven Lacrosse and Sports Center at Clark Field in honor of former chairman of the Texas System Board of Regents and University alumni H. Scott Caven, Jr., and his wife, Vivien, who made the first significant gift to launch the renovation.

This HDR image was created from 3 exposures and rendered using Photomatix. Additional processing in Lightroom and Topaz Adjust.

This is a really nice sports center with extremely well maintained field, permanent structures for exercising (pull-ups, situps, dips, etc.) as well as a running track. Running along side is what I believe is part of Waller Creek and the landscaping is still impressive although it hasn't fully recovered from last year's drought.

She is on one of the dining room chairs...doing situps! :-) These photos are being uploaded late because they were in the wrong folder . Taken by Ron.

Get fit and lose weight - beginners wanted! Go to www.myFitterU.com

I promise, it's not doggie torture. Carmen is doing exercises to strengthen her back, exercises prescribed by her physical therapist vet. When I first heard we were supposed to have her do sit-ups, I thought, "No, way."

Well, after a week or so of gentle coaxing with treats, "Way." :)

She had a re-check at the vet's office today and was able to do a few more-elegant-looking crunches. We're still getting the hang of it, and balancing camera, a pinch of bison, and keeping her on her back (my legs provide support) is a challenge.

(Also, for anyone who might be interested, our vet told us some interesting info re stem cell treatment for dogs with orthopedic ailments. It doesn't carry the same controversy as with humans (the cells are harvested from the patient through a simple surgical technique, processed into a serum, and re-injected into problem areas). Apparently, some dogs are showing substantial improvement. Our vet is just starting to use this with some of her patients, including her own dog and is waiting to see results. Just fyi for anyone who might want to ask their vets about this. We're not pursuing that line of treatment with Carmen, but it might be something we'd look into down the road. I don't have an opinion on the treatment, just sharing info.)

This is where we have our circuit classes, but I like to come here outside the classes and enjoy some time alone. The door is always open.

Camp Zama, Japan - Scores of senior noncommissioned officers from U.S. Army Japan and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force pitted their strength, endurance and willpower against a punishing physical fitness challenge Aug. 5, 2016, in Camp Zama, Japan. The leaders divided into five integrated teams and donned 40-pound rucksacks before embarking on a four-mile route around the post.

Six physical challenges peppered the hilly, sun baked path that pushed the NCOs to their physical and mental limits. From performing dozens of pushups and pullups to lifting litters and 5-gallon water cans, the teams worked together and encouraged one another to overcome every obstacle.

Army Command Sgt. Maj. Richard R. Clark, command sergeant major, U.S. Army Japan, organized this two-hour event to demonstrate the necessity of conducting challenging PT sessions to prepare Soldiers for the rigors of combat. The session's seamless integration of American and Japanes NCOs further reinforced the strong ties between the U.S. Army and the JGSDF.

"Our Commander-in-Chief has made it very clear that America will no longer fight alone," said Clark. "The size and scope of today's contingencies demand that we form strong bonds through bilateral training events and international community outreach. Victory will go to the side with the stronger alliances. America is honored to have one of the strongest nations in the Pacific on our side."
