Here is a view on Earth’s moon in a region called Sinus Iridum (Bay of Rainbows), there are two capes, or points, named Promontorium Laplace and Promontorium Heraclides. This area has also been called the “jeweled scimitar” because of its resemblance to the scimitar sword (or sabre). If you look close, you can see some “wrinkle ridges” on the flat surface area. These were caused when lava cooled and contracted, they are also referred to as veins.

Castello Ursino

Ursino Castle

The relationship between Emperor Frederick II of Swabia and the Ursino castle (castrum sinus: castle on the gulf) is truly unique.

The main reasons for this relationship are basically two:

- the first, logistical and defensive (it was part of a strategy for the protection of the Ionian coast with the castle of Augusta and that of Maniace in Syracuse).

- The other reason that led to the construction of this military building, is traced back to the conflictual relationship between the emperor and the city of Catania (Frederick II had decided to destroy the city but, for religious reasons linked to Sant'Agata, he spared it ).

Seven years later the construction of the castle began, 1239-1250, which in addition to being a defensive system, as mentioned above, was the manifestation of imperial power over the city.

Testified by an insert on the main facade with an eagle (Impero) choking a lamb (Catania).

Federico will change the rank of Catania, which from a city governed by a bishop-count, will become a state-owned city under the direct control of the emperor.

Frederick II restored the Liotro (Elephant) as a symbol of Catania in 1239.

With "Cooperative Aesthetic," the students of the "Time-Based and Interactive Media Art" program at the Kunstuni Linz present projects they have developed for the Ars Electronica Center's Deep Space 8K. The Deep Space 8K is equipped with a laser tracking system that can record the position and movement of people in the room.

In the course of Ars Electronica Home Delivery, several Cooperative Aesthetic projects are presented.

“Sinus Iridum at Dawn”

One of my favorite features on the Moon is the dramatic crescent of cliffs that define Sinus Iridum, the “Bay of Rainbows” located on the northwestern rim of Mare Imbium. These enormous cliffs rise to heights of 15 to 20 thousand feet above the lava plain they enclose. Note the two horns of the crescent. These are Promentorium Laplace (upper, northern) and Promentorium Heraclides (lower, southern). Promentorium Laplace is seen here casting a long triangular shadow; the peaks of this prominence rise nearly 10,500 feet.

The linear stretch of isolated mountains rising from the plain of Mare Imbrium at top center are the Montes Recti. The pair of craters at center are Helicon (left) and Le Verrier (right). Timocharis Crater is in the lower right corner.

Woke up Saturday, with a sinus infection. Had a choice...wait until a Monday to get a Tuesday appointment with doctor, OR call Doctor on Demand. The call cost $65, but at least I was able to get meds sooner and start on getting better quicker. Getting on a plane Thursday evening and I need to knock this out. Did not feel like eating this morning, so toasted bagel with jam was enough. Black cup contains hot water, lemon, and honey....eased my throat right off and I had a hot tea chaser with it. Water to take meds a must. Ricola LemonMint for cough and Afrin for three days only. New box of Minion tissues and I'm ready to crawl back in bed. See ya on the flip side unless we hear someone calling from outside, "BRING OUT THE DEAD".....

Mare Imbrium (Sea of Rains) covers an area of 1250x1250 km (757x757 miles). To the left of the image is Sinus Iridum (Bay of Rainbows). The large dark floored crater at the top is Plato with a diameter of 101x101 km (61x61 miles). To the right of Plato is the Vallis Alpes (Alpine valley) at 130x11km (79x7 miles) and a small rille can just be seen running along the length of this valley. Above this is Mare Frigoris (Sea of Cold) which stretches 1800x200km (1090x121miles).

The three craters in the lower right corner are Archimedes, Aristillus, and Autolycus, (large to small)

Composed of a five frame mosaic.
