Fountain Pen Nemosine Singularity with butterfly on a nib. Today is Fountain Pen Day. Exactly 140 years ago, the creator of the Waterman brand, Lewis Waterman, registered his groundbreaking patent. He wasn't the first or the last creator of a significant solution for fountain pens, but it's widely accepted that we celebrate this day as the beginning of the history of fountain pens. I write with a fountain pen not only on special occasions, and on February 12th, I use it with even greater pleasure.

Meanwhile I know that in the Palatinate Forest it is good to take fresh t-shirts with you on the mountain to change after you have climbed this high while you are exposed to the strong winds.
...the sky did not clear earlier and the wind did not let up as I wished and I had to do without the view from the Hohenberg to the castle of Trifels for the sunset.
After only a short session on the mountain I arrived back down and headed directly to the next mountain and searched for a place to sleep there. After a quiet night on the bus, I had a good feeling early in the morning when I left in time for sunrise.

Pastel colours during sunset over Turimetta beach, Sydney.
Nikon D810 & Nikkor 14-24mm, NiSi 6 stop filter. PP in PS CC using Nik Software and luminosity masks.
A beautiful warm sunset seen on the way home, loved the soft greys against the fiery oranges of the suns last dying embers. Whilst processing I noticed the camera clock was about 15 minutes slow so quite late in the day on the beach.
The ambient temperature at the time of taking was hovering around 30 degrees, Though just one person captured here I've never seen so many people on the beach at sunset before.

I do like spiral staircases...and shooting them with the 16mm end of a 16-35mm zoom can be a lot of fun.
The major problem of shooting something like this with a 16mm lens...is getting your feet far enough back to stay out of shot. :-)
This particular staircase is located inside the new Premier Inn at Blackfriars in London. It is accessible via Dorset Rise, off Tudor Street,
This is from the top, shooting down. When I was taking shots from the bottom, looking up, I was lying flat on my back on the floor.
At one point, I heard a voice saying: "Are you having fun there, Sir?" It was a smiling member of staff. I get the impression that they are becoming used to visits from photographers. :-)
I only knew this staircase was there because I had seen pics of it on Flickr. Thus, art feeds itself! :-)
a reedit of this image as it had really bad banding issues when uploaded. this was taken at the base of grasmoor fell in the lake district, uk during the beast from the east.

This is Elowah Falls in the Columbia Gorge in Oregon. This was the third time that I had visited this place, and the first time I was able to actually shoot something workable.
While looking around, and taking in the scenery, I noticed a single leaf, floating on top of a rock that had collected some water.
Nothing groundbreaking or earth shattering, but still a lovely scene, during a great photo outing.
Stay tuned for some more new images that I am working on right now. Some falls, some forests, some seascapes....
As always, I'd appreciate it very much if you could help me spread the word about my work, as well as leaving a comment here. And do not hesitate to check my website for workshop schedules and private instruction information.

"Love is not singular except in syllable." Marvin Taylor
Taken on the same day as Layers, this was captured in between the rays of sunlight that peeked out, giving it a cool 'look' that I rather like. I love the warm glow of natural light, but even on a dull day there is still beauty to be captured.
This is the seed of a flower that bloomed last month, and yes it really is that yellow, the contrast in colour between it and the background is what drew me in.
