Class 50 no 50008 rumbles through Whitacre Junction with a single coach working from Wembley Lmd to Bristol Barton Hill W.R.D. at this point is was running 45 minutes late. 13-07-19.
The dry season is a fine time to go wandering where water goes. Exploring secretive shadows, knowing that no one who cast them imagined they'd cause curiosity. But sure enough, 1913 is long enough to wonder your way back, along a railroad line from Centreville to Weston, and the many concrete tunnels for creeks running under. I've been working my way from west to east, exploring spaces that have me crouched or standing straight with plenty of space — depending on the size of stream they had to handle. Aside from variations in diameter, they're much the same as the next, having all been built in a single summer. It was a hot one too, some of the workers suffering heat stroke in the effort to catch up, behind schedule and over budget. For those who lived another forty-eight years, they were around to see their work abandoned. Infrastructure offers no real permanence, except in the case of world-famous construction. In most of the world, bridges, roads, and tunnels are infinitely crumbling and built over. They help me get a grip on my own impermanence, so I do my best while living, and don't worry what the future thinks of me.

Single (One) Lane Bridge across the Red River, between Oklahoma & Texas.
It used to be a wooden planked bridge, but over the years it was made into a one lane concreted bridge, yet the other lane was left wooden, and made into a walkway.
This bridge was once used in a movie, and as soon as I remember what the name of the movie was, I'll post it.
CARPENTER'S BLUFF BRIDGE
The Kansas, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway constructed the bridge, and later it became property of the Texas and Pacific Railroad. The bridge became joint property of Grayson County, Texas and Bryan County, Oklahoma in 1966.
The bridge spans the Red River and links Grayson County, Texas to Bryan county, Oklahoma.
Built in 1910, it was designed to allow trains, wagons, pedestrians, and horses to cross for a toll.
In the 1960's, the bridge was deeded to Grayson County, which renovated it for automobile use.
It's now a one-lane bridge with the old wooden walkway hugging it on one side.
During the summer, you can almost always find locals swimming in the river under the bridge.

Pennington Flash, Leigh. Another view of the heron I photographed last week. I'm not going to be able to use my camera for a while as I had an operation a couple of days ago and haven't to lift anything heavy. I'm going to ask my husband to set it up on a tripod just in case something exciting comes into our garden (which is bound to happen if I don't do this!). I'm feeling sore and a bit sorry for myself just now - but I'll catch up with all my contacts when I can.
