Just playing around in Photoshop...I think I'll do one for my hip hop dancer as well and give them to the girls as thanks for always being willing to do a shoot with me.
The dry season is a fine time to go wandering where water goes. Exploring secretive shadows, knowing that no one who cast them imagined they'd cause curiosity. But sure enough, 1913 is long enough to wonder your way back, along a railroad line from Centreville to Weston, and the many concrete tunnels for creeks running under. I've been working my way from west to east, exploring spaces that have me crouched or standing straight with plenty of space — depending on the size of stream they had to handle. Aside from variations in diameter, they're much the same as the next, having all been built in a single summer. It was a hot one too, some of the workers suffering heat stroke in the effort to catch up, behind schedule and over budget. For those who lived another forty-eight years, they were around to see their work abandoned. Infrastructure offers no real permanence, except in the case of world-famous construction. In most of the world, bridges, roads, and tunnels are infinitely crumbling and built over. They help me get a grip on my own impermanence, so I do my best while living, and don't worry what the future thinks of me.

Pennington Flash, Leigh. Another view of the heron I photographed last week. I'm not going to be able to use my camera for a while as I had an operation a couple of days ago and haven't to lift anything heavy. I'm going to ask my husband to set it up on a tripod just in case something exciting comes into our garden (which is bound to happen if I don't do this!). I'm feeling sore and a bit sorry for myself just now - but I'll catch up with all my contacts when I can.

The reason for the title is that this bus, a 1957 Leyland Olympian with 44-seat Weymann body (the Addlestone firm merged with Metro-Cammell in 1932 to form MCW) operated for local haulier-turned-bus-operator John Fishwick - how appropriate is THAT? Not only that, but this bad boy (which is very similar to the Leyland Olympic) predates the Leyland National by at least fifteen years in that it was of integral construction.
Anyway, this is the view that many a passenger would have had after getting on board to go wherever it was they wanted. A bit cramped by modern standards but hey, this is what you CALL a bus and, in the 1970s, Lancashire United Transport were operating Bristol REs to this same body profile but with one difference, some fuckwit at Plaxton decided it would be a good idea to have the windows so that any passenger couldn't see where the fuck they were going. These days of course the buses are all low floor but if someone at the back of the bus was having a crafty wank, well, you might not be able to see!
