Letchworth Village was a residential institution located in Rockland County, New York, built for the physically and mentally disabled of all ages from the newborn to the elderly. Opened in 1911, Letchworth Village at its peak consisted of over 130 buildings spread out over many acres of land.
On February 27, 1950, the first trial case of the polio vaccine in the United States was administered to an 8-year-old patient. After the patient suffered no side effects, the vaccine was administered to 19 more of the institution's children.
In 1972, a New York affiliate of ABC News featured Letchworth Village and its appalling conditions in an episode called Willowbrook: The Last Great Disgrace which helped lead to reform of similar healthcare institutions throughout the United States. But prior media attention and national focus was not enough to save Letchworth Village, and by the mid-1980s, the institution was no longer being adequately funded nor properly managed and residents, including children, continued to be found unclothed, unbathed, and neglected. In addition to rampant abuse among the institution's residents, staff also suffered abuse at the hands of fellow co-workers which included incidents of rape.
In 1996 the institution was permanently closed down, and many of its abandoned structures have since fallen into serious disrepair.
In 2011, Letchworth was featured on the Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures cable-television series on Season 5, Episode 6 which originally aired on October 28, 2011.

Near the end of my walk, as I reached the 72nd Street transverse that leads out of the park, I saw a makeshift jazz band that consisted of a guitarist, a drummer, and a guy switching back and forth between a single trumpet and a double trumpet. I'm not a real jazz fan, but it was interesting music...

After a meeting on Central Park West, I walked through part of Central Park, starting at the park entrance at Tavern on the Green, and exiting the park at 90th Street.
About a week later, I walked south through the (west) side of Central Park, starting at 96th Street, and exiting the park at 72nd Street.
These are some of the pictures I took along the way.
Every single wader plus the 15 Bearded Reedlings i was photographing sent on their way by North Lincolnshire county Council and wardens arriving in 3 trucks to cut back reeds.
very old can of frosting, calorie free lemonade, condiments that are from after the power outage in August, margarine, american cheese (not that I have any bread), eggs from December (still good, don't think they aren't) and sour cream from December that hasn't gone bad yet--you are as shocked as I am. I don't eat it, but I can't remember to throw it away. I haven't done any real grocery shopping since October? Last grocery trip was for cereal, loaf of bread, spaghetti sauce & noodles (which is in the pot and will feed me the rest of the week) and a bag of salad and that was three weeks ago. I know, I know. You wish you had my life. Meanwhile there is always meat around--but it's for the dogs. Even when I buy meat for myself! it ends up in their bellies.
Being single & living alone save the carnivores, it's hard to grocery shop because I can't buy too much or it'll go bad before I can finish it (case and point, the sour cream and countless jugs of milk) and then I never have the time or energy to go grocery shopping--or that funny thing known as money.

On the weekend of November 20-21, 2010, I was invited to photograph the new Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas prior to their opening December 15, 2010 in Las Vegas NV.
This set of images represents my efforts that weekend to showcase this newest resort property opening up on the Las Vegas Strip. Thanks to David Scherer from The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas for showing me around, to Miiko Mentz at Katalyst Films for helping to arrange the shoot, and to my wife for modeling for me.
