At the 1964 World's Fair in New York, the Mold-A-Rama machine was officially introduced and most of the molds were dinosaurs promoting the Sinclair Oil exhibit. These dino molds are larger than the current versions of the same figures and are made of a waxier material.
Interstate 80 passes right by the old company town of Sinclair, a place that's always fascinated me. We've never had time to explore it, though, and we didn't have time today. One of these days, though, I want to spend a little time here.
Sinclair was planned community built starting around 1924, when the Producers and Refiners Corporation built the refinery you see here on the right. They originally called the place Parco, after the corporation, but the corporation went under during the Great Depression, and Sinclair Oil changed the name when they bought the refinery and the town. The refinery is still going after nearly a century. The town, which sits off to the left, has a population today hovering right around 400.
There's also a ghost town with a brief but interesting history not far from here, and a state park that might be worth exploring., I think Sinclair's probably worth a day.

I have seen this photographed by others and have always wanted to see it in person. Went for a drive with the family and was able to take a few shots. This is a 3 exposure processed in Photomatix
This first state, first edition copy of Upton Sinclair's most famous book was donated anonymously by a generous patron of the library.
This is the Sinclair dinosaur. Sinclair is a gas station that they seem to have everywhere except Ohio. I love this dinosaur, and it is my dream to have one in my backyard one day.
Also, I would probably be hard pressed to not name my firstborn child "Sinclair." I realize it is messed up to like an oil company so much, but I think it is charming that their mascot is a dinosaur, because THAT IS WHERE OIL COMES FROM!! So awesome.
There were two great things about this gas station: (1) I got $5 in free gas and (2) The Sinclair dinosaur

The Sinclair Cambridge pocket calculator. One of the first and one of the best looking calculators EVER. Well, after the Sinclair Executive, anyway.
My wife bought me this for my birthday in 1973. It cost £24.95 or about $37. That was more than a weeks wage!! Within less than a year they were selling for £4.95 or $7.50.
It has a red LED display and takes 4 AA batteries which needed replacing frequently. I still have it - and several others and it still works.

A retro Sinclair gas station in Pilot Mound, Minnesota. The station seems to be a museum of sorts and not an operating station . . . there was no one around during my stop so I couldn’t get any information.

This arrived today, bought from eBay. Was still in the original box (which was a bit shabby) Surprised to see the unit was in great condition and cleaned up a treat!
At the time of this photo I had just met these people that day, and we are still in town. We were parked outside of a Sinclair in town, where Grief and I hit on the gas station attendant. She seemed flattered but had to decline. Then an older man offered to sell us some stuff.
.
Taken the first day of meeting them in July on that classic Minolta.
