Tonight was the British Red Cross trainers forum, the purpose of the forum is that the trainers from around the region gather together and share tips, tricks and also some of the ideas that haven't worked very well in their centres so that we can all learn from each other.

A couple of the guys there this evening took the opportunity to show us just how quick it can be to create a fake wound that you can use to help train first aiders how to deal with casualties and injuries in a more realistic scenario.

This is a fake wound that the trainer created using some wax and a little bottle of fake blood on a volunteer, I was really impressed as the whole thing from start to finish including the narrative was less than 5 minutes and the wound is sufficiently real looking to help prepare first aiders for the sorts of things they may witness.

There's a training session coming up soon where these sorts of wounds are taught and I'm really tempted to put my name down as I think it could be a useful skill to learn for my training sessions.

kenway in the sink naked for shower - film simulation -

Nothing like a photo to summarise your recent activities. I had a great time in Chile working with the Army on Simulation and Training Systems - they were keen, technically proficient and enthusiastic to work with.

They were also excellent hosts!

I hope I get the chance to work with them again.

These are reference images I'm using to test my new Velvia 100 RVP Film Simulation presets.

It's pretty well nailed down. With DMAX increases to Greens and Reds, and careful attention to how Velvia F used to make Reds orange and Yellows green, I made the adjustsments to reflect with known parameters of Velvia 100 RVP.

Like RVP, lighting conditions, exposures and subjects work differently with this simulation, but I used this reference set of 16 images to really stress test the preset.

In some cases, only two of the sliders need to be adjusted to suit the shooting conditions which are Exposure and White settings.

White balance needs to be adjusted manually. RVP tends to have a coolish tendency to it's images (which kind of makes sense because projector lights tended to be warmer.

White balancing with this preset requires you find your optimal results and then pull back towards cool just a little bit.

Molecular dynamics simulation of bacterial toxin alpha hemolysin embedded in a lipid membrane. Alpha hemolysin is toxin secreted by Staphylococcus aureus and it can cause lysis (breakdown) of red blood cells. Alpha hemolysin and its modfications have also been suggested to be useful in developing nanosensors, in drug delivery and even in DNA sequencing. We have studied how water interacts with the alpha hemolysin pore and how the behavior of water and small molecules can be controlled inside the pore using different driving forces.

What you see here: The protein is embedded in a POPC bilayer. This movie shows a side view with the lipids visible. The simulation is in explicit water but for clarity, we track the behavior of a few water molecules and how they move in the system and inside the pore. The simulation was 130 ns.

Note: MD simulations of pore containing system (membrane proteins and nanotubes) require special attention on the simulation protocol. See Ref. [2]

Epidural Anaesthesia simulation model. ESA prize 2016. The complex skills involved with administering epidurals, such as locating optimal insertion point and needle angle, can only be learned by practice. However it can be dangerous for novice anaesthetists to practice their first epidural procedure on real patients. This simulator provides a training scenario whereby novice anaesthetists can practice needle insertions and visualise bony structures.

Simulation day at #CityCollegeFTL! We conducted a scenario involving a mass casualty situation with five victims, in which students from several programs participated. The results were outstanding! The medical assisting students came to the aide of one victim and called the EMS team to take over. The most severe patient was taken to the operating room for surgery, with the anesthesia and surgical technology students. Amazing work was done by our students.

European Political Community Summit Simulation for Moldovan Youth, 2023

On 26-27 May, 50 young people from various regions of Moldova took part in a simulation of the European Political Community Summit, organised by the Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) from Moldova. The event took place at the Moldovan Parliament in Chisinau.

The simulation took place on the eve of the summit of the European political community held near Chisinau on 1 June at the initiative of the EU. Forty-seven heads of state and government, as well as the presidents of the European Council, the European Commission and the European Parliament were invited to the summit.

The simulation provided young participants with the opportunity to take on the role of European leaders representing their countries or institutions. Participants discussed a variety of topics, including peace, democracy, climate, energy, security and misinformation, and offered their vision of how to strengthen security and stability on the European continent.
