Supercomputer simulations of blast waves on the brain are being compared with clinical studies of veterans suffering from mild traumatic brain injuries by researchers at Sandia National Laboratories and University of New Mexico. The intent is to help improve helmet designs.
About the photo:
Each millimeter square in this model represents the type of tissue in that square. Sandia and UNM researchers are comparing supercomputer simulations of the physical effects of blast waves on the brain with Ford's analyses of patients who have suffered such injuries. (Photo by Randy Montoya)

On 17 March 2018, UNAMID supported an aviation emergency simulation exercise conducted by the Government of Sudan
at El Shaheed Siberia Airport in El Genuine, West Darfur. The exercise aimed at testing the local aviation authority’s capacity to respond to emergencies, as part of the airport’s efforts to obtain international certification. Photo by Matilda Moyo, UNAMID.
Simulation day at #CityCollegeFTL! We conducted a scenario involving a mass casualty situation with five victims, in which students from several programs participated. The results were outstanding! The medical assisting students came to the aide of one victim and called the EMS team to take over. The most severe patient was taken to the operating room for surgery, with the anesthesia and surgical technology students. Amazing work was done by our students.
Epidural Anaesthesia simulation model. ESA prize 2016. The complex skills involved with administering epidurals, such as locating optimal insertion point and needle angle, can only be learned by practice. However it can be dangerous for novice anaesthetists to practice their first epidural procedure on real patients. This simulator provides a training scenario whereby novice anaesthetists can practice needle insertions and visualise bony structures.
We did a science simulation today on natural selection.

Can democrats and republicans work together on immigration reform? West Point cadets gave it a try during the Congressional Simulation Exercise on April 4. The daylong exercise was designed to give about 150 West Point cadets in the SS202 and SS252 (American Politics) courses a hands-on, real-world simulation of government in action. Participants absorbed the role of legislators, journalist, lobbyists and presidential advisers in a daylong capstone exercise to see who can best use political capital to create the best outcome for their group. CAMP ITAMI, Japan - Yama Sakura 69 stands as the latest iteration of one of the world’s largest bilateral command post exercises. More than a 1,000 American and Japanese service members stationed throughout the Pacific implement cutting edge technology to fight a fictitious foe threatening Japan’s sovereignty.
As sophisticated computer programs project scores of simulated battles on hundreds of screens, a small yet expertly trained group of U.S. Army Soldiers, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) service members and Department of Defense civilians maintain and monitor a cohesive network that connects two Armies training across thousands of square miles.
Led by U.S. Army Japan, YS 69’s G6 section coordinates with its JGSDF counterparts to develop a reliable system that produces realistic training simulations while simultaneously establishing thousands of communication links that enable the countless phone calls, email messages and video teleconferences necessary to establish command and control of the virtual battlefield.
Since the team’s arrival in mid-November, G6 has overcome a myriad of challenges from internet connectivity to live video streaming to create a common operating picture that demonstrates the empowering partnership between the U.S. Army and JGSDF. Many members of the team will remain in Camp Itami in the days after the exercise's conclusion to repack equipment and reconfigure networks.

European Political Community Summit Simulation for Moldovan Youth, 2023
On 26-27 May, 50 young people from various regions of Moldova took part in a simulation of the European Political Community Summit, organised by the Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) from Moldova. The event took place at the Moldovan Parliament in Chisinau.
The simulation took place on the eve of the summit of the European political community held near Chisinau on 1 June at the initiative of the EU. Forty-seven heads of state and government, as well as the presidents of the European Council, the European Commission and the European Parliament were invited to the summit.
The simulation provided young participants with the opportunity to take on the role of European leaders representing their countries or institutions. Participants discussed a variety of topics, including peace, democracy, climate, energy, security and misinformation, and offered their vision of how to strengthen security and stability on the European continent.

These are reference images I'm using to test my new Velvia 100 RVP Film Simulation presets.
It's pretty well nailed down. With DMAX increases to Greens and Reds, and careful attention to how Velvia F used to make Reds orange and Yellows green, I made the adjustsments to reflect with known parameters of Velvia 100 RVP.
Like RVP, lighting conditions, exposures and subjects work differently with this simulation, but I used this reference set of 16 images to really stress test the preset.
In some cases, only two of the sliders need to be adjusted to suit the shooting conditions which are Exposure and White settings.
White balance needs to be adjusted manually. RVP tends to have a coolish tendency to it's images (which kind of makes sense because projector lights tended to be warmer.
White balancing with this preset requires you find your optimal results and then pull back towards cool just a little bit.

Baking up some 3d fluid simulation at work for some preproduction tests. We adopted blender 5 days ago in the office. It was great to go with opensource and never having to worry about keeping versions up to date, licenses and not having full access to the codes to write your own functions. Do give blender a go.
Here we have a rendered view which uses Zbuffer information for depth of field and glows to help make the droplets pop. Its great to be able to do it all in one app without having to deal with lost of scene information on exports.
