I edited this shot using Kim Klassen's texture "Awaken" for an assignment in an e-class "Beyond Layers" class by Kim Klassen. I was late getting started into the class so I kinda combined several of the classes to create this image. I am enjoying and learning so much in this class. In this assignment I was to create an image depicting six words about myself. I chose "The Simplest Things Make Me Happy" for several reasons.
1. I do love the simple things in life.
2. I love the simple things in nature like these berries.
3. I get so much joy when I learn to do something simple like adding words and texture to an image.

I made the wrap version, with the short sleeves and the belt.
The fabric is a cotton voile from Westminster Fibers, in a colorway that is ideal for someone with three black and white dogs.
I thought the fabric would be too sheer to wear without a slip or lining but it turns it's absolutely fine without, which is great. This a perfect summer dress.
Simplicity 1401; ©1945; Teen-Age Jumper and Blouse: The button-front jumper features a square neckline, armhole bands and skirt pockets. A slim inset belt joins the dart-fitted bodice and soft skirt, styled with front gathers . The blouse has a high drawstring neckline and the sleeves may be short or long and gathered to a wrist band. In Style I, the jumper armbands are scalloped.
Based on picture of a woman shot at Paris Fashion Week. Not a model, just someone who knows how to look good without going to a lot of trouble. Except I prefer tights to bare legs (always cold) and I can't resist a few accessories. But that's an American for you.

I could not decide which of my Amy Butler love fabrics to use, so I used a piece of them all. What's great about this skirt is that it is totally reversible.

This skirt started off as a McCall's 5430 wrap skirt but the waist band looked awful (due to beginner sewer error I'm sure!) . I salvaged the bottom half of that skirt to make this skirt. I tried putting in an invisible zipper but after many failed tries to get that right, I decided to just go with an elastic waist. This pattern was easy (other than the zipper part- again, due to beginner error). I like the dark denim I used but I think the skirt looks too plain as is. I'm still trying to figure out how to add some interest or embellishment.
I sort of like that blue plaid one. I think I saw it once on a "Bonanza" rerun.
My mother's wedding dress was made from a pattern similar to this, but hers had full lace sleeves instead of fitted ones.

My house is called "Simplicity Cottage," and it's located in the middle of some peaceful woods. I've really been working towards having less physical stuff in my life, so I only used the contents in my wallet that made me feel at peace. This included a Westchester Parks ID card, the college ID where I met my husband, the library card where I read with my daughter, and some floral stamps. What's more telling is what didn't make it: money, my business cards, credit cards, insurance cards, MTA cards - all the elements of my life that keep me moving somewhat faster than I'd probably like to be.
First pic is cottage, second shows all the other stuff...
Moss Rose. Simple little flowers open with the sun each morning and close at the end of the day. They come in many colors, but white has always been one of my favorites. I couldn't keep my eyes off this one. When planted with mixed colors I feel I have a new gift each morning. Each day gives a new arrangement.
This is Simplicity 2584 - View B, without the neckline applique. I've used the beautiful Zin Berry Red linen from Tessuti - I bought mine online and it's still available here
