La investigadora del Cinvestav señaló que el virus de la viruela símica, que pertenece al género Orthopoxvirus, puede ser transmitido al humano por contacto directo con los líquidos corporales, incluyendo la sangre, las lesiones de la piel o las mucosas de animales infectados, entre ellos roedores y primates; aunque también tiene una propagación de persona a persona.
