Silk Button Galls, my favourite galls, are created by the Silk Button Gall Wasp (Neuroterus numismalis)!

Neuroterus numismalis is a gall wasp that has two generations per year. One being sexual and the other agamic (all female and needs no male to reproduce). The sexual generation causes Blister Galls on Oak leaves. Whereas the agamic generation causes Silk Button Galls on the underside of Oak leaves. This gall wasp is common and widespread in Britain.

The Silk Button Galls are abundant on the underside of the Oak leaves and can reach 3 mm across. This gall holds the agamic generation and looks like a thick, rolled edge disk with a deep central pit and gold hairs, there is no mark on the top of the leaf. It is a single cell gall holding one wasp and can be seen from August to October, until the leaves fall in autumn. The wasp larva will mature in August but remain in the gall on the ground throughout the winter, emerging the following year from February to April.

Our Daily CHallenge 20-26 April : Pillows.

Luckily I remembered that what we call cushions are called pillows in the US, which gives much more scope!

This cushion is made from a silk jacket which I made when oversize was in fashion.

I dismantled it and made several things from the pieces. This was one, and a handbag was another.

This I added to with appliqued pieces., and machine embroidery.

Approx 1.4:1 macro of woven silk showing the threads nicely. Backlit with a diffuse light and shot using a 68mm extension tube, remote shutter and tripod mounted. Image cropped and adjusted sharpness slightly in Digikam. The threads are really small, and you can just about make out the twist in individual threads on some of the denser ones. But very smooth looking compared to macros of the same mag for cotton, for example.

I could watch the water fall for hours!

I was commissioned a red silk dress in the style of Sansa Stark's wedding dress in Game of Thrones. But without the extra harness piece and with some different details.

1. Black & White in 52 in 2018 Challenge

Every year they appear I am fascinated by these amazing little galls! They take their name from the fact that they look like little buttons woven from golden threads! These beautiful looking little galls are made by the asexual generation of the wasp Neuroterus numismalis.

Silk Button Galls are abundant on the underside of the Oak leaves and can reach 3 mm across. They contain the agamic generation of the Silk Button Gall Wasp (Neuroterus numismalis) and look like a thick, rolled edge disk with a deep central pit and gold hairs, there is no mark on the top of the leaf. The galls are a single cell gall holding one wasp and can be seen from August to October, until the leaves fall in autumn. The wasp larva will mature in August but remain in the gall on the ground throughout the winter, emerging the following year from February to April.

Silk

Alessandro Baricco

A few years ago I bought an embroidered silk fabric which my mother (mostly) and I cut and sewed into a bookshelf curtain to minimize dust gathering on the books and shelves and to prevent sun damage to the books. This evening the setting sun shone brightly on the silk making it even more golden.

They make them so well these days

One lazy weekend passing through T Hoshalli which is not too far from Bangalore, I spotted straw cane structures on two legs in the midst of a narrow pathway between two houses on one of the far interior roads. They looked like target practice stands with white yellow hazy growths on them.

A matriarch or two sat on the ground and they took out the cocoons of silkworm from these stands while the harsh evening sun was setting.

Silk is a sublime material and it is the texture and feel of it that makes it such a seductive wear.

Okay. It isn't the most dynamic wildlife photograph, but I had never seen silkworms before and thought they were interesting little creatures. Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA, August 2021

The delightful combination, to me at least, of a silk top and long pleated skirt. I feel so feminine like this, its so good being a woman!

Can I just add as well a note of thanks to everyone who has been so kind about my 'new hairdo'. I like it and so pleased many others do too.

Just have to cum when I wear this silk dress.

Wearing a silk blouse just makes one feel so feminine and with the slight sheer it just adds to the femininity
