This was a look inspired by the video game Silent Hill. Its one of my favorite games so it was fun to take elements from the game such as the environments and the creatures and turn it into a look. All accessories are made by me as well as the outfit. This is the first time Ive painted fabric, other than the occasional belt or something.
I painted the tights. The tights go all the way up so I might post some more photos of them later as they are quite fun and most of the muscle detail is covered.
I was blessed recently to go on a silent retreat (February 5th thru 8th) at Stiklestad Lodge near Fort Ransom, North Dakota. If you’ve never been on a silent retreat, I highly recommend it.
The retreat was organized by Father Luke Meyer, Chancellor and Director of Liturgy of the Catholic Diocese of Fargo. Assisting with the retreat were Msgr. Gregory Schlesselmann, Director of the Permanent Formation for the Diocese of Fargo; Fr. Raymond Courtright, Pastor of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fargo, ND; and Fr. Ross Laframboise, Pastor of St. Philip Neri's Catholic Church in Napoleon, ND.
I had never been on a silent retreat, and I’ll admit that it took a while to get used to not having a computer, cell phone, television or radio at my beck and call. However, once I settled in at the retreat facility, a sense of peace and restfulness became the norm. While I was very much looking forward to returning to my wife at the conclusion of the retreat, I’ll admit that I wasn’t looking forward to being “connected” again with our modern forms of communication.
At the retreat I learned that if we really wish to hear God’s voice in our lives, we need to create silence for ourselves. At some point during every day we need to put our smart phones, computers and any other distractions aside, and really listen to what God is telling us.
Being a nature photographer, I’ve spent a lot of time watching wildlife and marveling in the beauty of God’s creation. For me, spending time in the outdoors is a perfect way to connect with God. And He never ceases to amaze me.
