ANSBACH, Germany - Representatives of Emergency Services Directorates and Fire Chiefs from garrisons across Installation Management Command, Europe (IMCOM-E) met at the IMCOM-E Fire and Emergency Services Region Training Center in Ansbach on Urlas Kaserne to tour the facilities and observe certification training of U.S. and German firefighters Oct. 17, 2018. The USAG Ansbach facility is the singular fire training facility for IMCOM in Europe.

While on site the visitors learned about the different training opportunities, observed and took part in a variety of training scenarios including fire ground operations, breaching and rescue operations, equipment maintenance, hazardous materials response and emergency communications procedures.

Pictured: A cutaway of a firefighting pump used in classroom training to help firefighters understand how key equipment functions and is properly maintained. Such knowledge is a required, regular part of fire fighters annual performance testing and certification.

Fire Protection Specialist Sigurd Mack from IMCOM-E Headquarters in Sembach, Germany explained that Ansbach site was invaluable in qualifying and certifying the proficiency of a firefighter's skill.

"The course objectives and structure offered here is based on requirements issued by the National Fire Protection Agency, which the Department of Defense has adopted " Mack said. He explained that the course includes academic study as well as weeks of practical exercises, including fighting various types of fires, and required safety measures.

"We adjust training and certification procedures to meet Host Nation safetystandards, but within the NFPA framework, and with DoD recognized certification" explained Mack.

In the Eastern Cemetery is one of Sweden’s first memorial gardens (Minneslund). It was initially used as a ceremonial space for burials but was in 1959 converted to a memorial garden. Fredrik Åberg's artwork "Recycling" and a pond is now the center of the garden.

The Eastern Cemetery has a chapel and crematorium facility, which also bears the architect Sigurd Lewerentz signature. The plant was built during the war years in the early 1940s and was the inaugural completed on 23 October 1943. Here are three chapels - Saint Gertrude, St. Knut's and the Chapel of Hope, with pleasing works of art by artists including Sven Erixon, Otte Sköld and Robert Nilsson. The Crematorium is no longer in use.

præstebro kirke lacks the almost brutal rawness of Islev Kirke - also by the Exners - still a beautiful room though when lights are out and the central lantern and the slots along the perimeter wash the yellow brick walls in daylight

the Exners were - like many of their contemporaries - great admirers of Sigurd Lewerentz and were later to take their brickwork to similar heights

Sigurd Lewerentz – one of Sweden's most internationally acclaimed architects.

Architect Sigurd Lewerentz was 77 years old when he was asked to create St. Petri Church. One may think it a bold decision to call on a man of that age for such a demanding task. But age turned out to be no disadvantage.

On the contrary. He had, behind him, many years of collected experience, which he could now draw on. Full of life, knowledgeable, original, independent of all architectural traditions and styles, with the understanding of what is essentially christian, he set about his task.

He put all his artistic passion into this task. What he created is not the product of a drawing-board.

The placing of every brick is determined directly by himself on the spot or indirectly by the instructions he gave to the artisans.

Much in the building can seem to be improvised, but actually everything is carefully thought out.

Before the altar, pulpit and bishop-chair were built up, models were made and thoroughly tested.

The watchful eye of the architect constantly followed the work on the site.

The building-committee therefore decided in full confidence to leave the building of the church entirely in his hands and not call in an inspector.

Reticent, almost timid, the architect went about his work, often reserved towards the many architects and others who turned up while work was going on.

He was, however, open-hearted and easy-going towards the master-builder Helge Lindgren and the workmen on the site.

A more and more close relationship developed between them as the work progressed.

At the consecration of the church Bishop Martin Lindström made the observation:

"A renowned architect has with all his being built here a hallowed room of magestic weight"

----------------

Mickey Mouse is a cartoon character who has become an icon for the Walt Disney Company. Mickey Mouse was created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. He was voiced by Walt Disney from 1928–1946 theatrically, and again from 1955–1959 for the original ABC TV The Mickey Mouse Club television series. The Walt Disney Company celebrates his birth as November 18, 1928, upon the release of Steamboat Willie, although Mickey had already appeared six months earlier in an unfinished test screening of Plane Crazy (Steamboat Willie being the first Mickey Mouse Cartoon to be released). The anthropomorphic mouse has evolved from being simply a character in animated cartoons and comic strips to become one of the most recognizable symbols in the world. Mickey is currently the main character in the Disney Channel's Disney Junior series "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse". Mickey is the leader of The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, with help from Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and other friendly friends of his.

In late 2009, The Walt Disney Company announced that they will begin to re-brand the Mickey Mouse character by putting a little less emphasis on his pleasant, cheerful side and reintroducing the more mischievous and adventurous sides of his personality, starting with the newly released Epic Mickey.
