這品種的藍不輸明月院的明月藍!

What is put in the frame or out of the frame? That is the key question of composition or even the basic question of photography.

Sometimes it is tough to make a decision on this and we just don't know the answer to it!

Happy Friday and great weekend!

This is the shot taken in the fall around my neighbourhood.

"What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets?"

"No, Neo. I'm trying to tell you that when you are ready, you won't have to."

I was working with these water photos and was getting one good collision after another and then all of the sudden this happened! Now what made this pillar lean drastically to the right causing the second drop to miss the top of it entirely is beyond me! But it sure does look like it did it on purpose! ;-)

Another shot from last Saturday's morning snow. Bittersweet grows like a weed here in VA but the berries are pretty:)

Honestly, when I saw it, I thought I had found some kind of Pokémon. The truth is that nature gives us some really curious forms, like this plant, Cynoglossum creticum, a species widely distributed on the Mediterranean coast.

Jumping Spider & Raynox DCR 250 (Take 2)

Macro photography is one of my passions, and I have been progressively working on getting more magnified images by adding the Raynox DCR250 to my Sigma 150mm macro and my Nikon D610. I had posted a first try image earlier and one of the suggestions was to try a larger aperture (e.g. f/11 - f/16) so after finding another Jumping spider in the back yard I decided to have another go. This image was captured with the Nikon D610, Sigma 150mm Macro and is probably about 1.6:1 - 2:1 magnification.

I had to bump up the ISO to get the shutter speed fast enough (since I was not using a flash), and the EXIF / Shot details were 1/50 seconds, f/11, ISO 2000. As there was a large amount of noise this was removed using Topaz DeNoise AI, before the image was edited in Skylum Luminar 4 (using Enhance AI and Structure AI). I brought the image into Affinity Photo to try and remove some dirt from the surface (the spider was on a black porcelain tile which is reflecting the blue sky, but also contained a significant amount of dirt / dust / distractions).

I am much happier with this capture, still a long way to go but practice makes perfect :). FYI The spider was not harmed in the taking of these photos, and was returned back to where it was found.

Another dragonfly shot from the pond where we were staying on vacation:)

The caterpillar of the spurge hawk-moth, one of the most striking and large species you can come across. The adult is not a butterfly but rather a fairly large sphinx moth. They exclusively feed on euphorbias or spurges in their larval stage, hence their common name.

I can see why it is very easy to get addicted to water drop photography. The wonderful colors and randomness what you see are easy to get hooked on! Each one is its own unique, natural, and beautiful little sculpture! And not a single one can be duplicated!

Used a bit of glycerin in the droplet tank for these. It seems to smooth things out a bit. :-)

This image features a Male Azure Damselfly and it was captured using a Canon 7D with a Sigma 150mm macro lens down at Ballyhonock Lake which is located within County Cork, Ireland.

Praying Mantis (Orthodera ministralis)

I was lucky enough to come across a praying mantis (I think this was a Garden Mantid) possibly Orthodera ministralis) recently. I could not help but get out the camera and capture some photos whilst it was crawling on the chair it had climbed up, the incredible creature was placed into the garden after I captured a few quick shots.

The image was captured with a Nikon D610 & Sigma 150mm Macro. Specific settings were ISO 1250, f/16 & 1/160 seconds.

There were a few edits, I used Lightroom for some preliminary edits before applying Sharpening using Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise using Topaz Denoise AI, General Edits using Luminar 4 (Light, AI Enhance, AI Sky Enhance, AI Structure), and cleaned up the photo using Affinity Photo (to remove the countless smudges, crop and make some selective edits).

In the modern world, it is not so easy to be achieving "leave me alone". Everyone is inter-connected either by internet, phone or even physical inter-dependence. One could not survive without going to others or shops.

The most precious moment you can have "leave me alone" is the moment you have a macro meditiation.

This is "leaf me alone" in my neighbourhood.

Happy Wednesday!

Wolf Spider

A wolf spider I caught wandering inside so decided to get a few macro images before releasing the spider back outside.
