The Promethea Moth, Callosamia promethea, another of the giant silkworm moths that are native to Indiana, has two methods of eluding predators. When its wings are closed, it is exceptionally well camouflaged to blend in with the browns of the woodlands in which it lives. If the predator does manage to locate it, it quickly flashes open its wings with the two false eyes, often startling the predator into having second thoughts about its meal!
