2019 Scramble for Sight Candids by Shotmakers Photography

Sights around Centennial Olympic Park, Atlanta, Georgia.

For our homework we have to do as many pictures as we can using the sight measuring technique we learnt. This is my first effort in chalk.

Most visitors to Denali National Park don't see the mountain; it's usually covered by clouds. We were very lucky, indeed: for over 6 hours we saw the entire mountain as well as the Alaska Range from horizon to horizon.

St. John's Cathedral

St. John's Cathedral, 's Hertogenbosch The city's main sight is St. John's Cathedral (Sint-Janskathedraal), one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in the Netherlands. It was originally built as a Romaneque-style parish church between 1220 and 1340. A new transept and choir were constructed in Gothic style from 1340 to 1450. In 1505, the original Romanesque church was demolished (apart from the clock tower) and the Gothic edifice was completed in 1525.

A fire destoyed the roof and clocktower in 1584. Another fire damaged the cathedral in 1830, but everything was repaired by 1842. The building has undergone three major renovations from 1859 to this day.

The interior of the cathedral was stripped of its ostentatious Catholic decoration by the Protestants from 1629. It is still worth a look for its organ, built by Heyeman in 1617-1621, and considered to be one of the most beautiful in the country.

's-Hertogenbosch is also home to Saint John's Cathedral (Sint Jans kathedraal in Dutch), which dates from c. 1220 and is best known for its Brabantine Gothic design and the many sculptures of craftsmen that are sitting on almost every arc and rim along the outside of the cathedral. In 2010 an extensive restoration was completed, undoing the damage of many years of wear-and-tear and acid rain.

山脚下的村庄

a village at the foot of a hill

Edinburgh Castle on it's hill with the Princes Street gardens below it - the tour guide told us that the Princes Street Gardens used to be a loch and when it was drained many years ago, at the bottom a number of skeletal remains of women were found. Where did they come from? Well, apparently, they're from the Witch trial times when if a woman was accused of being a witch, her thumbs would be tied to her big toes and she would be thrown into the Loch. If she drowned and sank to the bottom, she would be cleared of being a witch and her family would be apologised to. If she floated and lived, she would be taken up to the castle and burned at the stake for being a witch. No-win situation there!
