Sound for Sight is raising funds and awareness towards Sightsavers’ work eliminating the World’s leading cause of preventable blindness, trachoma.

Trachoma is a bacterial infection linked to inadequate water and sanitation and passed on by flies. It is referred to as ‘neglected tropical diseases’ and can be prevented and ultimately eliminated entirely.

The Sound for Sight audience will be taken on a spectacular sensory experience during the show that has been carefully curated by Sound for Sight Founder, Laura Westcott and ‘Mo Pleasure’ the former Music Director of Earth, Wind & Fire.

Charlotte Kelly, Soul II Soul

Charlotte rose to fame in the mid 1990s as one of the lead singers of British R&B group Soul II Soul, with hit songs “Back to Life” and “Keep on Movin”.

Charlotte was born blind at birth with no sight at all in her left eye and virtually none in her right eye.

“I am very excited and delighted to perform at Sound for Sight because being blind from birth, sound is one of the most important tools we possess as blind and visually impaired people. So, treatment and eradication of blindness is a blessing for the growth on the human experience.” – Charlotte Kelly

Denise Leigh

Denise made her operatic debut in 2003 by winning Channel 4’s Operatunity and playing the role of Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the London Coliseum.

Since then, Denise has sung all over the world and was honoured to headline the London 2012 Paralympic opening ceremony.

Both Denise and her husband Stefan (who will accompany Denise on piano) are visually impaired with a visually impaired son.

“The treatment and eradication of blindness, in all it’s forms, is a cause very close to our hearts and we are delighted to be performing at Sound for Sight to help fund research and treatment.” Denise and Stefan

Mo Pleasure

Mo is a renowned multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer. Mo began his professional music career playing bass guitar with Ray Charles. In 1993, Mo became a member of the legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire, and ascended to become the band’s musical director from 1994-2001.

Mo has performed with Stevie Wonder, Nile Rogers, Bette Midler, Roberta Flack, Amy Winehouse to name a few… He also played keys for Michael Jackson on his final comeback tour at the O2.

Dave Swift

Dave joined Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra in 1991 as his resident bass player, and has played with him ever since! He is one of the UK’s finest, high-profile bass players and boasts a musician’s portfolio that is second to none, having played for an array of renowned artists, from George Benson and Chaka Khan to Eric Clapton and Paul Simon.

Professor Dan Reinstein

Dan is a pioneer in laser eye surgery and Founded the London Vision Clinic. He is also a very talented saxophonist and often accompanies Mo Pleasure at London’s iconic 606 Club.

Georgia & The Vintage Youth

A 22 year old Essex Girl with big blonde hair, a spine-tingling voice and a master of the retro jazz/swing style of music that is both vintage and fresh (hence the name of the band).

Georgia’s sound is contagious and subconsciously gets you tapping your feet, whilst her ballads are stripped back allowing Georgia’s strong and iconic vocal to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.

Joe Slater

A 22-year-old lad from Liverpool who blurs the lines between Blues, Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll whilst taking inspiration from The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen and Oasis.

“With his raspy voice, perfect pitch and soulful delivery, Slater is unquestionably destined for stardom….” London Hollywood

Don’t miss what promises to be an extraordinary night for a very worthy cause on World Sight Day.

This Hubble Space Telescope image features a bright spiral galaxy known as MCG-01-24-014, which is located about 275 million light-years from Earth. In addition to being a well-defined spiral galaxy, MCG-01-24-014 has an extremely energetic core, known as an active galactic nucleus (AGN), so it is referred to as an active galaxy.

Even more specifically, it is categorised as a Type-2 Seyfert galaxy. Seyfert galaxies host one of the most common subclasses of AGN, alongside quasars. Seyfert galaxies tend to be relatively nearby ones where the host galaxy remains plainly detectable alongside its central AGN, while quasars are very distant AGNs whose incredible luminosities outshine their host galaxies.

JB Tower seems safe (for now), but the CNW-era signal bridge at West Chicago days are numbered; the replacement supports are already up, and the signal bridge sits in the grass ready for installation. An eastbound led by a pair of UP SD70Ms curves through the scene in nice morning light that soon would fall apart to a gray, murky cloud deck ending the day.

The sight works pretty well.

This is probably the No. 1 tourist site in Chiang Rai and we can see why. It is absolutely amazing. I found the following description for it ...

"The White Temple is a stunning contemporary Buddhist temple and art exhibit designed by artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, symbolizing purity with its white exterior and glass reflections, representing the Buddha's wisdom and journey to enlightenment ... with a bridge signifying the path from Hell to Nirvana." Apparently, the artist funded the entire complex on his own.

We liked it for the architecture, statues, and definitely interesting artwork. Temple is a misnomer - it's more like a huge complex with a number of other sights worth visiting - such as the Golden Temple, the Art Cave (an extra 50 Baht but well worth it), numerous smaller buildings and 2-3 museums. Two museums featured the artist's works and they were amazing - but no photography at all is allowed and they are strict about that - what a bummer. The Art Cave was a very pleasant surprise. Take your time, use your mobile phone's flashlight, and check out all the weirdness on the walls that most people don't even notice.

For 100 Baht entrance fee ($3 USD) this place was well worth it. Get there early, like right at opening time, before the tour buses arrive and it turns into a zoo.

Cameron Park Lake, California: Sightings: Double Crested Cormorant.

My wife likes to visit fancy places - castles, palaces, mansions, etc., so we decided to check out Vizcaya. It is a mansion built for a rich industrialist from the Midwest. He picked a good location - right on the water. The mansion itself was nice but it didn't blow our socks off. I just thought it was a bit dark on the inside but that is only my humble opinion. The gardens were nice but the drawback about living so close to sea water is many of the statues were decaying rather rapidly. All in all it was a decent visit, especially since I was admitted for free being a vet - that was a very pleasant surprise!

I took these photos in December 2019.

South Road, Adelaide, with no cars.

Whilst making a 1 hour drive from McLaren Vale back to Adelaide, I took a 5 hour detour.

It turns out both main arterial roads from the south into Adelaide were blocked. Two seperate accidents had brought down stobie poles on both Goodwood and

South Road. Traffic was backed up for about 10 kms. Goodwood Road was completedly shutdown, South road had a detour close to the accident.

I took the detour and then tried to escape. I cut off Port Road, up Cheif Street and then got stuck behind a truck, stuck under a bridge. They though the

track was shorter than it really was and now .. wedged ... there was no easy way to turn around or et it out. I gave in and started taking photos.

For non South Australians ..

A Stobie pole is a power line pole made of two steel joists held apart by a slab of concrete in the middle. It was invented by Adelaide Electricity Supply

Company design engineer James Cyril Stobie (1895–1953). Stobie used materials easily at hand due to the shortage of timber caused by the arid and treeless

nature of much of South Australia and destruction from white ants. The pole was patented in 1924.

From the news: Truck toppled stobie pole closes South Road.

"A stobie pole with powerlines carrying 66,000 volts of electricity has been toppled after it was clipped by a "Murphys" truck which the tipper section had clipped the pole travelling along South Road.

The stretch of South Road between Port Road and Torrens Road is expected to be subject to traffic diversions for most of the afternoon as ETSA crews attempt

to replace the damage infrastructure and restore power to some 2500 users who have been left without electricity as a result of the accident. A small grass

fire ignited shortly after the lines were brought down, with a neighbouring business owner quickly able to put out flames.

ETSA is hoping to have services returned to users without power by later this afternoon.

MFS and police were redirecting traffic, with hopes of having one lane open each way by 1:00pm, with the road not expected to be fully open again until early

tomorrow morning.

Police are advising of major traffic delays and are recommending motorists avoid the area completely."

At 5 pm that night, the street was still blocked (Accident was about 10:30am)

I am unsure how many hundreds of thousands of cars use this road daily, but this was a major issue.

About :

A very large sightseeing point in Sapporo - Okurayama Viewing point. also this is the same place that winter olympic before.

In order to take the clearest sight of Sapporo, I use 50mm to shot every angle for panorama. Since the sunlight was too blight, I also take 3 step to make them HDR. So it's total 102 images. The original image is extremely large! (31899px x 7927) and the file size is 6.74GB!! I think i really need an larger hard drive for my computer...orz
