My two newest arrivals! Giselle was not a love at fist sight but the more I saw pictures of her the more she spoke to me until finally I decided I would regret not getting her...Her sad wistful expression is so penetrating that she really shines out of pictures for me. From certain angles she looks like she is on the verge of tears and from others she looks like she is almost smiling (another chameleon doll!). Voltage Erin has been in my wish list for some time. She is another doll with a dark and a light side for me; sweet and innocent... or perhaps not? She inspires me to create images that challenge you with their ambiguity! Two gorgeous additions to my growing Nu Face collection!

Sound for Sight is raising funds and awareness towards Sightsavers’ work eliminating the World’s leading cause of preventable blindness, trachoma.
Trachoma is a bacterial infection linked to inadequate water and sanitation and passed on by flies. It is referred to as ‘neglected tropical diseases’ and can be prevented and ultimately eliminated entirely.
The Sound for Sight audience will be taken on a spectacular sensory experience during the show that has been carefully curated by Sound for Sight Founder, Laura Westcott and ‘Mo Pleasure’ the former Music Director of Earth, Wind & Fire.
Charlotte Kelly, Soul II Soul
Charlotte rose to fame in the mid 1990s as one of the lead singers of British R&B group Soul II Soul, with hit songs “Back to Life” and “Keep on Movin”.
Charlotte was born blind at birth with no sight at all in her left eye and virtually none in her right eye.
“I am very excited and delighted to perform at Sound for Sight because being blind from birth, sound is one of the most important tools we possess as blind and visually impaired people. So, treatment and eradication of blindness is a blessing for the growth on the human experience.” – Charlotte Kelly

Denise made her operatic debut in 2003 by winning Channel 4’s Operatunity and playing the role of Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the London Coliseum.
Since then, Denise has sung all over the world and was honoured to headline the London 2012 Paralympic opening ceremony.
Both Denise and her husband Stefan (who will accompany Denise on piano) are visually impaired with a visually impaired son.

Mo Pleasure
Mo is a renowned multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer. Mo began his professional music career playing bass guitar with Ray Charles. In 1993, Mo became a member of the legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire, and ascended to become the band’s musical director from 1994-2001.
Mo has performed with Stevie Wonder, Nile Rogers, Bette Midler, Roberta Flack, Amy Winehouse to name a few… He also played keys for Michael Jackson on his final comeback tour at the O2.
Dave Swift
Dave joined Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra in 1991 as his resident bass player, and has played with him ever since! He is one of the UK’s finest, high-profile bass players and boasts a musician’s portfolio that is second to none, having played for an array of renowned artists, from George Benson and Chaka Khan to Eric Clapton and Paul Simon.
Professor Dan Reinstein
Dan is a pioneer in laser eye surgery and Founded the London Vision Clinic. He is also a very talented saxophonist and often accompanies Mo Pleasure at London’s iconic 606 Club.
Georgia & The Vintage Youth
A 22 year old Essex Girl with big blonde hair, a spine-tingling voice and a master of the retro jazz/swing style of music that is both vintage and fresh (hence the name of the band).
Georgia’s sound is contagious and subconsciously gets you tapping your feet, whilst her ballads are stripped back allowing Georgia’s strong and iconic vocal to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.
Joe Slater
A 22-year-old lad from Liverpool who blurs the lines between Blues, Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll whilst taking inspiration from The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen and Oasis.

They are too faint to be seen in daylight, and are visible only when illuminated by sunlight from below the horizon while the lower layers of the atmosphere are in Earth's shadow.

In Faux Cap there's a placid blue lagoon, a long beach and a village called Betanty.
South of here you can miss your sight southbound over only water until Antarctica.

My drive five days ago, on 24 June 2026, was GREEN. So little colour, that the occasional sight of a red barn or anything red was WONDERFUL! This really is a beautiful drive, but some of the photos I took were kind of boring and don't do justice to the feel of the whole area. Also, I was so concerned that if I turned off my car, I might not be able to start it again, so the heat rising up from my vehicle, plus the weather, gave me lots of far from sharp images. I suspect that sometime I will have to take my car back to the dealership, as the repairs that were done recently certainly haven't solved this problem starting issue. Many of my photos were taken through the windscreen, which so often doesn't work well. The total drive was 271 km, taking about seven hours.
I headed straight south on the main highway from home for this drive. Further south than I usually go. In 2025, I did a similar drive for the very first time. Years ago, I used to take part in the Nanton Christmas Bird Counts in part of this whole area, with carpooling. Everywhere looks very different in winter.
I decided to then go west and stayed on a main highway all the way to Highway 22. It's quite a long drive through beautiful rolling hills, with an occasional farm house and, if one is lucky, a cowboy or two on horseback.
Not all that many birds, but I was happy to spot a very distant Great Blue Heron, a Brewer's Blackbird, and a Swainson's Hawk along this highway. When I reached Highway 22, I turned N, passing three old silos that I love to see and photograph, plus a quick drive along the side road by the Bar U Ranch. This is a working ranch and a lovely place to visit, My photos were taken from my car this time. I continued my drive north and then took a main road travelling all the way E back to Highway 2. Almost immediately, I came across another Swainson's Hawk, standing on a fence post and clutching a Richardson's Ground Squirrel in its talons. That was the best sighting in the whole day.
The sky offered some interesting clouds and, luckily, there was no rain. We have been having so many rainy days recently, with more to come.
"Bar U cattle literally fed the world. The ranch fed workers building the first transcontinental railway and waves of immigrants flooding to a new land.
It fed Canada’s first Indian reservations, the first patrols of Northwest Mounted Police, our nation through the Great Depression and our soldiers through two World Wars. Bar U Percherons, “the work horses that powered North America,” built our cities and roads and pulled our trolleys and fire wagons, from New York City to Victoria, British Columbia.
One of the first, most successful, most enduring large scale cattle ranching operations in Canada, the Bar U in its hay day ranged 30,000 head of cattle on 160,000 acres of grassland, and was world renowned for its stock of 1,000 purebred Percherons.
Located deep in the southern Alberta foothills, on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, the Bar U, from 1882 to 1950, was a force to be reckoned with. While other large Alberta ranches succeeded for a time only to go out of business, especially after the killer winters of 1886 and 1906, the Mighty Bar U persevered to eventually become a kingpin in a business empire that included a variety of ranches and farming enterprises, as well as meat packing plants and flour mills."

It operated as a large company from 1882 to 1950, and continued as a smaller entity under successive families until the headquarters site was purchased by Parks Canada in 1991. Indigenous people have played a significant role in the history of the ranch since its inception. The Bar U Ranch was able to establish strategic relationships within shifting economic markets due to the size, knowledge and connection of its owners and managers. This enabled the ranch to be successful for many years."

Lizard Point is for many ships the starting point of their ocean passage and a notorious shipping hazard. The Lizard lighthouse is situated at Lizard Point. Immediately below the lighthouse, situated in what used to be a hotel is the YHA Lizard Youth Hostel.
The area is famous for its carved serpentine items, which range from ornaments to the pump handles in the local public house; the Lizard Inn. The geology of Lizard is fascinating, with a number of planned walks available from local tourist authorities in order to discover more about the local rocks.
The first sighting of the Spanish Armada on mainland Britain was off Lizard Point at 3 pm on 29 July 1588. This was one of the greatest invasion fleets in history and consisted of 120 ships armed with over 1,000 cannon and with 29,000 men on board.
The Battle at the Lizard, a naval battle, took place off The Lizard on 21 October 1707.

Kestrels are found in a wide variety of habitats, from moor and heath, to farmland and urban areas. The only places they do not favour are dense forests, vast treeless wetlands and mountains. They are a familiar sight, hovering beside a motorway, or other main road. They can often be seen perched on a high tree branch, or on a telephone post or wire, on the look out for prey.

This Hubble Space Telescope image features a bright spiral galaxy known as MCG-01-24-014, which is located about 275 million light-years from Earth. In addition to being a well-defined spiral galaxy, MCG-01-24-014 has an extremely energetic core, known as an active galactic nucleus (AGN), so it is referred to as an active galaxy.
Even more specifically, it is categorised as a Type-2 Seyfert galaxy. Seyfert galaxies host one of the most common subclasses of AGN, alongside quasars. Seyfert galaxies tend to be relatively nearby ones where the host galaxy remains plainly detectable alongside its central AGN, while quasars are very distant AGNs whose incredible luminosities outshine their host galaxies.

Seen at Barkisland Stonlea is an Optare Solo M710SE for South Pennine Community Transport on the E4 service to Brighouse via Greetland and Elland. This makes quite a difference from the usual Fiat Ducado Mellor Orions and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinters/EVMs that dominate the route.

JB Tower seems safe (for now), but the CNW-era signal bridge at West Chicago days are numbered; the replacement supports are already up, and the signal bridge sits in the grass ready for installation. An eastbound led by a pair of UP SD70Ms curves through the scene in nice morning light that soon would fall apart to a gray, murky cloud deck ending the day.
