The National Botanic Gardens of Wales almost ran out of money and closed on St Davids Day (01st March - The National Day of Wales) 2004. Fortunately an army of friends and volunteers rallied to the cause and have turned around the fortunes. it is well worth a visit - in fact it is well worth several visits if you are in the area or passing through. The biome designed by Norman Foster is an obvious draw for those with an architectural bent; but actually there's plenty to see. You can easily lose a day there roaming the grounds, exploring the original restored Victorian double walled vegetable, fruit & herb garden, the greenhouses, ponds and water features, or checking out sculpture, visiting exhibitions and eating huge great slabs of home-made cake and mugs of tea for an excellent price.

2009 - Watching Aprimo Bowl from the sidelines.

An old sign on the ATV trail up to Scranton, Utah, a ghost town in the Tintic Mountains. Taken June 18, 2011.

Our family has changed dramatically over the years, in the 1800's we were the proud owners of the Lawrences Marionette show, touring the country, attending all the major Goose fairs, whilst as a sideline making fireworks (commissioned to make the fireworks for Queen Victoria’s wedding to Prince Albert, but some family members ended up being killed in a gunpowder explosion and the fireworks were never finished), and running a grocery store. My GGG Grandfather also took his show over to the USA where he married his first wife, and one of the cousins with him continued and took the show to Australia where she, and her husband subsequently remained. Another of my GGG Grandfather’s relatives, Lorenzo, was also doing wonders in training animals, and became famous at Belle Vue Zoo in Manchester, where he becamse the keeper of Elephants having walked one elephant from Edinburgh to Manchester after the zoo bought it at auction from the closure of the Wombwell circus. Lorenzo became what today would call a celebrity; papers were tracking him, food and places to stay were offered throughout his journey, and he subsequently became a full time employee of the zoo as a result (having originally been employed only to bring the elephant from Edinburgh to Manchester). Where as today the family is very much removed from the world of stage and fame, I developed a fascination for steam trains and photography, and now work within the rail industry. Teaching is about as close to performing that the family has got to since the days of Lorenzo.

I didn't take this picture, obviously, because you'd never hear the end of it if I were close enough to (l to r) Claude Makelele, Willy Sagnol and Lilian Thuram to take their picture.

Trees with hoars frost line a farm field.

Taken at sunrise, low light, overcast skies but I got a slight break with some sun breaking through the clouds.
