A brief reprieve for Michael. (The ball is on the other side of the "court", apparently.)

**For those of you wanting more "action," that wasn't really the purpose of these images. I didn't want to take traditional soccer shots (one, because it was indoor on a hockey rink, the lighting was terrible, and I don't have the best lens for fast action in low light; and two because that's not really my style). I wanted to catch emotion and the feel of the team more than anything.

Team Red with their magical mascot at the 2010 Quidditch World Cup. McGill easily won over Harvard. There were jokes made by the announcers that Harvard had a hangover but I think their getting lost and delayed put the fight out of them.
This guy was waiting and watching. For what, I'm not really sure, but after a while he suddenly started a mad dash into the water, where he was meant to be after all.

And, that's just what Ben was today during the football game. He was "sidelined" due to an injury he received at last week's game (slight concussion). We dicussed it with the head coach and decided it was best to have Ben sit out today ... better safe than sorry. But, I tell you what, it's a lot more fun to watch the game when Ben's actually playing! And, we got killed ... 52-19. And so it goes...

This was my first time shooting a sport event, and I had a lot of fun with it. Learned a lot, and got to talk to several other photographers as well, which was nice. Unfortunately, this was another case where i've really wished i had the ISO capabilities of something like the D700 (which i'll be getting sometime next year, or its successor, depending on what Nikon does). To get a decent shutter speed, i had the ISO kicked all the way up to 3200, the first time i've done that, and the results weren't exactly to my liking, although they're not horrible, i guess.
This was a pretty big night in the history of Hogan High School, as this was the high schools last Homecoming game. After 50 some odd years, the Hogan will no longer be a high school, instead it will become a middle school after this year ends. My old high school will be no more. Eh, what can you do...
For the night, they had quite a few Homecoming Kings and Queens from years past come and be apart of the night, and welcome 2010's homecoming king and queen into the club, the last to join. It was pretty cool to see young and the old out there together, my moms good friend, who was prom queen back in their day, was out there as well. In addition to seeing the old folks, it was also good to see a lot of people I went to school with, having not seen many of them at all in the years since graduating.
So overall it was a good night. Got to see old friends, met some local photographers, learned a lot, and came away with a few decent pictures. I think i'll start going to more games to get more practice in, and not just football, i'll be checking out other sports as well.
