I realize that I am behind yet again and your art is all important to me. After going to a protest yesterday at noon in Chicago, I went to see Hidden Figures at Logan Theater in Logan Square. I had just paid and found my seat when I heard about the protest against Trump's anti-Muslim ban at O'Hare airport and decided to leave, even though I didn't have my camera with me and don't live in that area. My friend Joshua Mellin posted some amazing photos to his Flickr site here: www.flickr.com/photos/joshuamellin/ and I posted a photo and a few videos to my Instagram account here: www.instagram.com/kirstiecat_photo/ There's another protest happening at Terminal Five at O'Hare Airport at 6pm as Trump continues to defy all other government branches, act like a fascist, and appoint a white supremacist with Steven Bannon. If you are an American and you don't stand up to this , shame on you. It doesn't matter what race you are. We are all accountable for making sure our leaders follow the Constitution and adhere to Democracy vs. fascism.

Greenpeace activists deploy 40 ft x 20 ft banner reading “Shut it Down - Quit Coal,” on the Bridgeport Harbor Generating Station coal elevator in Bridgeport, Connecticut on February 17, 2011. The activists and banner messaging go with their demand to shut down the aging and dirty coal-fired power plant. The Bridgeport Harbor Generating Station is an aging, inefficient plant that endangers the health of Bridgeport residents, including the children attending the six schools located within a one mile radius. Nationwide, smokestack pollution from coal-fired power plants kills more than 13,000 people per year according to the Clean Air Task Force– a rate of one person every forty minutes.

This protest and march was in response to several unarmed people of color being killed by law enforcement in the United States recently and the subsequent lack of charges or punishment for the police involved. The most recent was Eric Garner who was wrestled to the sidewalk and held by the neck until until he was dead as he said, "I can't breathe". On the day before this event, it was announced the police would not be indicted on any criminal charges in that case.

The protesters met at 34th and Nicollet and marched down Nicollet Avenue. It was announced before the march that the route would going on interstate highway 35W in case anyone wanted to stop before then. The crowd did not diminish much when it moved down the I-35W entrance ramp.

The police stopped traffic about a mile behind the march. Other police vehicles followed the march closely. As the march approached the Lake Street exit, a public address from one police vehicle announced over and over that everyone must leave the highway. Some protesters exited at Lake Street, but most continued.

The crowd swelled to about 3000 people and speakers talked from on top of a rental truck. By 4:30pm the crowd was growing too large for the sidewalk, and there was a mass movement of people into the intersection of Lake Street and Minnehaha Avenue.

When the intersection was initially blocked with people, one car continued to move right through the people and ended up runnig over a young woman. Video of that event has been widely circulated. Later, the crowd parted to let the ambulance through to pick up the injured, and the rally continued.

This is the sixth Minneapolis protest over police brutality in two weeks. This one was organized and led by Minneapolis high school students, some of whom walked out of classes last week in protest. The protests are in response to unarmed people of color being killed by law enforcement in the United States such as the Michael Brown who was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Another example is Eric Garner who was wrestled to the sidewalk and held in a choke hold until he was dead. In both cases, it's been announced there will be no criminal charges against the police.
