Heat is applied to the tubing with the tether on the Hitch Climber to form the best fit. There are two layers of tubing on the legs and main tether. Lighter weight tubing on the legs. Each layer is heated and shrunk before the next layer is applied. An additional "collar" layer is applied where the legs join the main tether to reinforce the union.
There's something especially satisfying about shrinking shrink-plastic.
If I can then make something interesting with the end product of my messing about with a heat gun ... then so much the better.
I made this for a Banana Frog 'Project of the Day' here: bananafrog.typepad.com/bananafrogblog/2010/02/project-of-...
Before it got put in the oven. I did the drawing on the right first, and then traced it onto white shrink plastic.
Here's what it looks like all 'shrink wrapped' before going on the boat. The plastic coating helps prevent sea-water/salination corrosion.
Sketch of my cat drawn on transparent "shrink plastic" and transformed into a sweet necklace.
Approx 2.5x4cm.
A gut-shot of my Demeter Opto-Compulator. I opened it up to make sure there wasn't a battery in it. Since I added it to the Boss pedalboard I've been unplugging the input and wanted to make sure I didn't have to keep doing that.
Interesting the way they put shrink tubing around the footswitch. Never seen that before.
shrink pots are of Viking origin and are an alternative to a coopered vessel. A piece of green (unseasoned) timber is hollowed out into a tube. Then a groove is cut near the bottom to accept the base. A dry timber base is made to fit loosely, then as the tube shrinks it tightens onto the base. Although the fit is close, it is not generally watertight unles sealed round the base with brewers pitch, but very good for dry goods etc.

the cloud was reclining in the shrink's chair with somber expression on its face
shrink: what seems to be the problem? what bothers you?
cloud: what bothers me? - everything!
I don't know who I am, I don't know whether I'm coming or going, I don't know what's gonna happen next 30 seconds, I don't even know how many of me are there!, I don't know to be or not to be, I don't bleepin' know anything! that's what seem to be the problem and that bothers me! a lot!
shrink: I see. You feel vulnerable. I understand. Search for identity is such a typical nebulous endeavour but ... I can't help but wonder if you are not being a tad too sensitive?
cloud: too sensitive? sensitive my cloud arse!
ok, see this Slava bloke took photos, personal photos, of me , candid shots, he was watching me , in a most perverted sort of way, over like half an hour , dirty bastard! and you can see what happens to me within half an hour , see for yourself, if this is not identity crisis I don't what is!
got some pills?

since I have been mentioned and called names I just have to make a statement: I had no intention to hurt cloud's feelings, I just sat there with my wine and took shots of the same cloud, yes I repeat the same cloud, within half an hour
and yes I agree, being a cloud is no picnic , it messes with your head (cloud's head that is)

"What a thing it is to get old, never get old!" my mum used to tell me. Now I understand what she meant. The narrowing and shrinking of one's horizons, possibility contracts.
She still thinks of me as a child, I had to remind her I'm pushing 40.
