Certainly not a Chamber of Commerce day by any means, but in the rare events when there's something interesting running on a NS line that sees two trains a day might as well get out anyway. Eleven years ago, EJ&E 662 and IC 6204 shove M343 up Steelton Hill on May 3, 2009. Three J SD38-2s showed up to Pokegama Yard the previous month and they start out using a pair in yard/transfer service and a single one with IC 6204 as shover power. The IC SD40-3 had the helper link on the long hood so this was a common arrangement for awhile. Eventually 3-4 more EJE units came up to the Twin Ports and solid pairs were on the shover jobs. It appears this train was shoving conventional through here so they would probably cut off at South Switch Simar on the former DWP. During 2009 it was most common for northbounds to use the Peg on the directional running.

I've got 10 or so different frames of this scene I'll slowly add to the album but I think of all of them this is probably my favorite. Just something about a classic Class 1 branch line local with weedy tracks and perfect light....it just about checks all my boxes!

CSXT's Framingham based L004 (old B724) has dropped their train on the at MP QBU28.7 on the Fitchburg Branch and are shoving down the weed choked spur leading to Safety Kleen. This location is known as Marlborough Junction for the 2 mile branch off this branch that once led northeast into Marlborough Center. Abandoned by the New Haven in 1966, the approximately 800 ft into Safety Kleen that they are now now traversing is all that remains of the branch.

To learn much more about this classic traditional branch line refer to the earlier posts.
